Help Getting Started on Project

Post by Gina »

Hi all :)

New here and to VideoStudio X4. I need some help getting started on a project for a DVD. My husband and my nephew went on one of those NASCAR racing experiences, where they got to drive around a track in a racecar, and another family member recorded the event. I would LIKE to have four items on the dvd menu:

Newphew's Ride
Husband's Ride
Both Rides
UnCut

The nephew's ride will only have footage of him, in his car, etc. Husband's ride, same thing, only him. Then Both Rides will be a combo of the two, Uncut is the raw footage.

How the heck do I do that? lol. Do I have to make 4 different projects? It seems I only have one video track in the program interface. I'm not sure how all this goes together. Right now I am in the process of cutting out all the video footage I don't want in any of the movies (except Uncut).

Can anyone give me a head start?

Thanks,
Gina

Hi Gina

Yes the best method is to create 4 separate projects, one for each.
When the editing is completed, render the projects to a new video file.
You will have 4 Mpeg2 video files that can be used to burn a DVD.

From what I gather you have all the footage in one project.

Save the project again giving it a new name “Nephew’s Ride”
Remove all frames/clips except the ones relating to the nephew.

Open the original project containing all clips.
Re name as Husband’s Ride, remove clips.
Repeat this process until you have the 4 separate projects.

Continue to edit each one.
You may find it easier editing 4 smaller projects than one larger project.

To get a little more technical can you give the properties of your video clips.
Right click a clip in the timeline and select properties, what are they?

Hi Lata :)

Thanks for replying :) Ok, I see how to do it within the DVD menu building, now that you have confirmed my thought process. My plan was that I would make the "Both Rides" video so it would run smoothly, then delete whatever scenes did not pertain with Newphew's Ride, and Husband's Ride. They would pretty much be the same effects, etc. Here is the Properties screenshot that I took when I right clicked one of the clips.

I'm having trouble getting the screenshot to display in the post. Here is the link:

I'm sure I will have more questions as I go. :)

Thanks,
Gina

Hi Gina

Your video files are Mov types Widescreen 16:9
The projects, after you have completed the editing need converting to Mpeg2 DVD compliant files.
It is this type of file that is used to create a DVD.

Go to Share Create Video file DVD - DVD Video 16:9
You can play the new video on your pc to check quality, if the quality is poor, we may be able to modify the standard template using different properties

Do this for all projects, then use the new video files to burn your DVD.
