Re: X5 - unable to create output video (Share) - all jerky

Kingston wrote:I discovered the problem on my system when I decided to try opening the video in VirtualDub. VirtualDub displayed an error message saying that the Panasonic DV Codec was claiming that it could handle the AVC/H.264 codec, but it can't.

So, I uninstalled the Panasonic DV Codec. Now when I play back the clip in "Project" mode in VS X5, the video plays back smoothly. I can also Share to files and have them play back correctly.

I had to run a DOS command from a command prompt to uninstall the Panasonic Codec because it wasn't available for a normal uninstall:

RUNDLL32.EXE SETUPAPI.DLL,InstallHinfSection DefaultUninstall 132 path-to-uninstall-dir\infname.inf
(note to self: don't use quotes to surround path)

The path-to-uninstall-dir\infname.inf should be replaced with the path to PANADV.INF.
Thanks for the reply Kingston.

1. Using GSpot 2.70a http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ it sees it as a H.264
codec "bad chunk in frame data"
2. VirtualDub 1.9. 11 http://virtualdub.org/ will not open the file
"Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'H264' (unknown)"

I found this reference, so

"During install make sure to check the boxes 'VFW Interface' and 'VirtualDub' under 'Application plugins'.
If you already have other codecs, and you don’t need ffdshow to decode anything except H264 in VirtualDub, uncheck everything else except
“H.264/AVC” at the two steps where it lets you choose what codecs ffdshow should decode.
When you’re done, go to your start menu (all programs on XP), ffdshow, VFW configuration. Select the decoder tab, and click on Codecs on the upper
left. Click on “H.264/AVC” on the right, and in the middle column make sure it’s NOT disabled (aka libavcodec is selected).
Then click apply and your
H264 video should be openable in VirtualDub."
http://www.moviecodec.com/video-codecs/ ... ing-47037/

I selected only the components VFW Interface and VirtualDub
The additional tasks I had selected only H..264/AVC and ibavcodec

3. MediaInfo 0.7.55 http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en opens the file OK
4. Plays OK using vlc

Back to my jerky movie :(

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ToHz4rQ ... e=youtu.be
10 second clip edited using Corel VideoStudio X5
using ffdshow codecs ffdshow_rev4399_2012-03-22

It would appear that I do not have the appropriate codecs and/or need to uninstall some unknown unnecessary codec.

Thanks everyone

:)

Maragret

Are you able to use the camera to record to 1280 x 720 x 30fps (720P) ?

--------------------------------------------------

Continuing my coedec quest I have now un-installed DivX
Video Studio X5 now reads the video as using a compression of CoreAVC Video Decoder

I don’t know if this is correct or not, I would have expected some reference to H264.

I have used AVS Video Converter to create a MP4, you can download the sample here.
http://www.4shared.com/file/yCvi_B-R/IMAG0011.html

My own thoughts are that Video Studio cannot read the 1440 x 1080 x 15fps correctly and is using whatever codec it assumes is correct that is available on the pc.
I think each of us may be seeing different compressions, well at least I am.
Very strange

But it seems we are still all able to get smooth replay with at least some codecs, and me and others with all codecs. And possible with at least some to correct the aspect ratio problem too. Yet Margaret doesn't seem able to get anything smooth...

It is not my camera. I was attempting to do a quick video edit to upload the video to a trial camera forum. I wanted to show the quality of the video in HD format. This particular model, is one of the few high quality video cameras.

I do not have in Control Panel | Programs, DivX but Xvid. Is this the same thing? I un-installed Xvid with same result of a jerky output.

Thank you for going to the trouble to convert the movie for me.

How do you know which codec X5 is using for a particular project/video?

Exactly Ken.

I posted on a trial camera review about my challenges in editing this video.
http://www.ronburyswildlife.com/2012/04 ... -file.html
From this forum, the movie format details are:
1440 x 1080, 15 fps, aspect ratio 4:3
1280 x 720, 30 fps, aspect ratio 16:9
640 x 480, small 30 fps, aspect ratio 4:3

I have used the VideoPad freeware mentioned in the camera review http://www.nchsoftware.com/videopad/index.html to convert the movie, directly from the camera, to an .avi format. I have been able to use X5 to edit this VideoPad output successfully.
The output from VideoPad will not open in VirtualDub 1.9. 11 http://virtualdub.org/ with the error message "Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'H264' (unknown)".

So upgrading from X3 to X5 did not solve the problem of being able to edit this movie. It would appear that I have some codecs (unknown to me) installed on my PC that is messing things up, or the required codec is not installed. But, VideoPad will successfully edit the movie (eg. take 10 second clip) with whatever codecs I have currently installed on my PC.

The earlier versions of Video Studio are totally dependent on having an old version of QuickTime installed but this is solved by X4 and X5, I think.

I need to use freeware eg VideoPad Video Editor, to convert this video - useful for taking multiple clips, etc. This maybe all that is needed in the short term for editing requirements.

I am most appreciative of everyone's help in this forum, as I have been over the years.

Thank you

:)

When you dowload video from the camera, before putting it into Video Pad, what extension does it have? I suspect it might be .mts or possibly .m2ts or even .mpg. If it is any of these, then you needn't use Video Pad at all but insert them all directly into VS.

Ken, it is the IMAG0011.AVI that I had previously uploaded to my dropbox.

As it was an .avi file, that's why early on I thought I might not have the correct version of Quicktime for the VS version I was using. I am using Quicktime 7.7.1.

Thanks

I have looked back through this thread and cannot find a link anywhere to IMAG0011.AVI I can find where you said you had posted the original video, but the link there is to the same video file as edited i.e. with Lorikeets in the name. Can you post the link to IMAG0011.AVI, please?

Oops, apologies.

I posted the other video on 7th April http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 15#p244643 - this is the link:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/85955/IMAG0011.AVI IMAG0011.AVI has not been renamed.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/85955/2012_03_2 ... ikeets.AVI the original video I posted, 2012_03_22%20Lorikeets.AVI - all I did was rename the file.

Both straight out of the camera.

Thanks

Re: X5 - unable to create output video (Share) - all jerky

All solved !!!!!

Corel support asked me to uninstall the following programs then to test VideoStudio Pro X5 after uninstalling each software:
CamStudio
SUPER © - by eRightSoft
KMPlayer
VidShot Capturer

I uninstalled these then tested X5 with no luck.
I tried to clean up other unnecessary programs then I shut down the system.

Bringing up the system, then running X5, I was able to finally do a 10 second clip. !!! yeah !!!

I will not know which program was the culprit, or whether I should have shutdown after each uninstall.

Happy little vegemite.

Thanks to everyone who helped me :) :) :)

Well, congratulations ... finally!! :D Though no doubt more than a few of our users will be a bit puzzled by your being now a happy little vegemite! Here in NZ, there is a major shortage of Marmite, the preferred axle-grease, so no doubt many here are resorting to Vegemite too...

As for possible culprits, I don't know most of them. But I think it is safe to say that it was not SUPER since that is a program that many of us here use and recommend to others... and no one has ever complained of it causing conflicts.

I've just come to this strand as I still run XP & I'm having problems with jerky playback whilst editing videos. I have a large project running about one hour: mostly stills, but with some short video clips too. The video clips are originally m2t files. As I was having problems with some clips being jerky, I changed them to mp4. Problem solved - only it wasn't. All the mp4 clips were jerk free for a few days. Now most of them have also become jerky or even freezing completely. I know my machine is not so fast by modern standards, but why should the jerky problem arise where it was ok before? As far as I can see, the computer isn't running anything else at the same time. I've run CCleaner & Registry Booster without any change in the problem. I did a search & came up with this strand. I don't have any of the software mentioned above, so I can't uninstall that. As to codecs, I don't remember which one(s) I have installed & I don't know how to find out. Could this be the problem?

Help please.

Hi John

Wow this is an old post….

What version of Video Studio are you using.

You should not need to convert the M2TS files.
Were the files recorded using a Camcorder?
What are you intending to make, burn a disc or video for the internet?

Smart Proxy
You should enable Smart Proxy, this process creates additional files and does improve project playback.
The files do take a while to render.

Right click the clips and choose Create Smart Proxy
Check Settings – Smart Proxy Manager – File manager to view proxy files that have been created.

As an observation

A few days ago I was using my m2t files from Pana 900 camcorder.
The options panel was open with the Attributes tab showing, now I had playback problems.
With the Video tab selected playback was better.
I was not using proxy files.
I haven’t had time to recheck this strange behaviour but will do so today?
