If all I do is insert the .avi file into the timeline (no editing of any sort),
Share as eg. WMV, then the output file is as if the first frame of the .avi is being played for 30 seconds.
It has the same date time stamp that is on the .avi footage.
Ken Berry wrote:And to find the disable non-square pixel rendering, whenyou go to Share > Create Video File > DVD, a dialogue box appears where you are asked to give the new file a name and select the format. And there is a button which says Options. Click that and you will see several little boxes, the second or third of which is 'Enable non-square pixel rendering'. If it is ticked (which it is by default), then un-tick it..
Thanks found it :)
Once again the output, is as if the first frame is being played for 30 seconds.

Ken Berry wrote:And finally, yes, that is what I measn by aspect correction for those formats where the above aspect correction did not work. But if you don't 'fill the window' then you can manually stretch it all out, either to leave black borders above and below, but with the correct aspect ratio from left to right. Or pull the whole thing out so it is in correct aspect and fills the white frame, though this will mean some of it will not be seen on screen i.e. it will be cropped.
Thanks will try this just to see if I can get any footage at all.

Thanks for the hand-holding.

Trying this technique just one frozen frame for 30 seconds :(

Thanks

Hi

I mentioned earlier

I now read your reply relating to the camera, i read the details on the web site and the camera produces HD H264 video.

The new Ltl-6210MG has now been released. This little beauty is jammed packed full of features as is the Ltl-6210HD. Send live picture messaging to your Smart Mobile Phone or internet PC. The 12MP camera records high definition 1080p and 720p H.264 video with audio.
Unquote

So why is your sample video using ffdshow codec using 15 fps. this quality being very very low when compared to the HD H264.?

Just confused again, maybe i'm having a senior moment ........

My dropbox
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/85955/2012_03_2 ... ikeets.AVI 25.6 Mb
contains the movie as it is straight out of the camera.

After installing ffdshow and Xvid, all I can now do with save the movie (no editing at all) is of a movie with the one frame of 30 seconds :(

Ken Berry has picked up that the aspect ratio is incorrect.

While your Dropbox links are obvioiusly identical, it is interesting that the first one shows up in VS with "uncompressed", whereas the second shows up as DTV-DVD. But GSpot shows them both to be using the H.264 codec and 4:3 aspect ratio at 1440 x 1020 at 15 fps.

But more interesting is the fact that GSpot also says "Bad chunk in frame data: invalid length". But I have no idea how to interpret the technical data which follows. But at least it seems that there is something wrong with that particular piece of video -- even though I have managed to re-encode it in a variety of other formats, including some with the correct aspect ratio.

I downloaded the file and opened it in GSPOT. According to GSPOT, there is "Bad chunk in frame data: Invalid length."

When played back from within GSPOT, the filter that was used to play it back is MainConcept (Broadcast) AVC/H.264 Video Decoder and Default DirectSound Device. It plays then pauses, plays then pauses, ....

That's interesting. In my Gspot's 'Proposed codec solutions and tests', the video plays perfectly (though with wrong aspect ratio) using ffdshow, DivX's h.264 but also the Main Concept/Adobe H.264/AVC Decoder. It also worked with what it called the 'Ulead h.264 decoder'. It claimed not to work with the Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder, though in fact it still appeared to play back smoothly on that test.

Using GSPOT on the IMAG0011.AVI (below) it says "Bad chunk in frame data: Invalid length."
It played OK using VLC.

Ken, I could *not* see in GSPOT how to know which codec it is using.

I insert this .avi movie into the timeline, Share, Create Video File, MPG-4, MPG-4 HD.
Using X5 to playback this saved "clip" or use VLC to play the X5 output movie - it plays for 30 secs but contains only the one frame "frozen" with the time stamp from the original movie showing 03/22/2012 15:33:37.

I am most appreciative of this forum.

Many thanks.

This may not be the version of GSpot you have, but the codec info usually appears where the red arrow is pointing in successive versions of GSpot:
GSpot codec.jpg
I will download your latest clip in a little while and play around with it.

I have now had the chance to play around with the latest clip. But I get identical readings for it in GSpot. And it plays smoothly on my X5. I have also rendered it to the same outputs as you earlier clip, all with the same results.

This clip also has the 'bad chunk' msg in GSpot.

Many many thanks for all your testing and direction of my movies.

I'm at a loss as to how I went from outputting a jerky movie to a frozen movie, after updating drivers and installing ffdshow and Xvid codecs.

The output from the camera sure appears to weird with the bad chunk and aspect ratio.

I would have thought that I should at least be able to output some clips, with the same results that you have achieved.

Once again, many thanks.

I had a lot of trouble. Eventually I got it to play okay in "clip" mode but not in "project" mode. In "project" mode I had a few crashes and frozen computer. If I managed to get a file created through Share, it would play back with pauses.

Well you were busy yesterday.
I am having some problems in reading the properties using Video Studio.

When I use the W7 laptop I see the compression as Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Encoder
the laotop is new and has no extra codecs installed, just Video Studio installed.

When I use The desktop XP..... I see ffdshow Video Decoder

I uninstall ffdshow and the codec now shows DivX H.264 Decoder.

I think the laptop W7 may be showing correctly but i just dont know.
So if you guys are having a similar problem then maybe we cannot compare correctly?

Margaret, does the camera have the option to record to 30 fps?

I discovered the problem on my system when I decided to try opening the video in VirtualDub. VirtualDub displayed an error message saying that the Panasonic DV Codec was claiming that it could handle the AVC/H.264 codec, but it can't.

So, I uninstalled the Panasonic DV Codec. Now when I play back the clip in "Project" mode in VS X5, the video plays back smoothly. I can also Share to files and have them play back correctly.

I had to run a DOS command from a command prompt to uninstall the Panasonic Codec because it wasn't available for a normal uninstall:

RUNDLL32.EXE SETUPAPI.DLL,InstallHinfSection DefaultUninstall 132 path-to-uninstall-dir\infname.inf
(note to self: don't use quotes to surround path)

The path-to-uninstall-dir\infname.inf should be replaced with the path to PANADV.INF.
