X5 - unable to create output video (Share) -all jerky

Post by mgrogan »

I have upgraded to X5 (15.0.0.258)
Windows 7 64-bit
QuickTime Player 7.7.1
K-Lite_Codec_Pack_840_Basic.exe

I am using an input file of:
a 30 second .avi file, frame size 1440 x 1080 15 frames/sec
Video compression Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder, 24 bits, total 450 frames
Audio compression PCM 32.000 kHz, 16 bit Mono 960,000 samples.

I was using X3 version http://forum.corel.com/EN/posting.php?m ... 8#pr243598

If all I do is clip the .avi to a 10 second output (eg .mpg, .mpg, .wmv) with no editing, I get a jerky movie (which appears to be one frame per second).

I have put up a 10 second clip here to show a sample of the jerkiness (which was created using x3) but it is the same jerkiness.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpFA8KZs ... e=youtu.be

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi

I viewed your sample on youtube…
Stop motion, if you intended to do that you would be proud of the result

Two comments
1 / Codec Packs can cause additional problems to the ones they are supposed to cure, so I certainly don’t advise using them.
By the way not saying that this is the problem, just a comment.

2 / You are using a video file at 15 fps, if you rendered the file for you tube what template did you use. If you selected one using 30fps then every frame will be duplicated.

Give more info on how you created the new video file?

Video Studio will give the video properties we require, simply right click a clip and select properties.

No, I did not want stop motion.
In the youtube clip (X3)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpFA8KZs ... re=mh_lolz
I wanted to
1. Put in an image with text
2. insert the 30 second .avi file
3. put a watermark (text) down the lower left hand corner.
4. Save/Share as eg. .wmv

I had been a very, very happy X2 user until late February 2012, when X2 kept crashing whenever I tried to output/share a video. Fortunately I did happily prepare an important presentation by the 2nd Feb. of .mpg clips before I had these problems.

I do not know what I could have updated on my PC since early Feb 2012.

I deleted X2 as per Corel web site, and reinstalled X2 - but even though I had my activation code, but it would not successfully activate it!

I had previously purchased X3, but never installed it, I upgraded it to X3, with successfully being able to activate it.

As X3 did not work , I purchased X5.

In X5, all I attempted (after activation) was:
1. Open the file (insert the video into the timeline)
2. Clip the first 10 seconds (so I could upload a sample of my input .avi file)
3. Share/Output as (any) video

I then tried to
1. Open the file
2. Share/Output as (any) video

These 2 attempts at X5 resulted in a similar output to the X3 youtube video - it is as if X3 and X5 are somehow taking 1 frame a second an creating a slow-motion or jerky video (no matter which format video I choose). Note in both of these attempts, the option "same as first video clip" is greyed out so I cannot attempt this option.

This is what VS thinks is the input file.avi file
https://plus.google.com/photos/10308260 ... 4679958529
It is a little weird as x5 is saying it is 15 frames per sec.

Thanks I was looking through old forum posts and Corel web site trying to find what I could do.

I have never knowingly used any project template before.
Looking at Settings | Project Properties (I assume this is the default)
Project template properties MPEG file
Under General it has 25 frames per second

Should I be using 15 frames per second? It will not let me change any frame rate.

For the Microsoft AVI file project template, it will allow me to change the frame rate to 15.
I changed the Frame size to the largest option of 1440 x 1080

I made a 10 second clip - using the modified .avi project settings, same result as previously!! but 10 second avi file is 641 Mb.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as to how I could edit any of these 15 fps videos
(created using Ltl Acorn 6210 HD trial camera (motion detector)

All I was was trying to do make a clip of a sample video to show people the output from the camera!

Thanks

I used your original uploaded 30 sec clip and using X5 output to half-a-dozen video files in all different formats and in none of them do I get the "stop-motion" you show in the clips that I downloaded from youTube.

Thanks soooo much for doing that for me.

Did you do anything special for project settings?

What version of quicktime do you have? (I have 7.7.1).

Did you install ffdshow or any special codecs?

So it appears that there is something weird in my PC setup from when X2 was working perfectly to attempting to edit this particular .avi.

Thanks again

Canuk, I have been in email contact with Corel support.

This has been their replies:
--------------------------------
Attempt 1.
====
Please provide more details about your system information so I can check your hardware, software and error details; please do the following:

Click Start >> Run >> type: msinfo32

System information window will open; on the left-side pane, please click the ''System Summary'' to highlight it.

Then, click File >> Save...

Save the System Information as System Information File (*.NFO). ***NOTE: Please make sure that you can open this system information file on your computer before uploading it to us to check if the NFO file is corrupted or not.***

Also, go to Start menu again, type in the run box “dxdiag” (without the quotation marks). When the DirectX Diagnostic Tool window comes up, click on Save All Information. Save it as .txt and then send it to me as an attachment.

To send us your System Information file (*.NFO) and DXDIAG text files, please go to your ''Support Cases'' or click here:

https://www.corel.com/corel/login.jsp

Select the Case number that you want to include an attachment. Then click on ''Add an Attachment'' button. Your default e-mail client will launch on your screen; use your e-mail client to send your attachment. Please send your attachments at this e-mail address: MyCaseSupport@corel.com

=====
Based on the system information that you have provided, your video card driver is outdated:

Card name: ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO
Driver Date/Size: 4/20/2011 03:07:48, 795648 bytes

To further isolate this issue, please download and install the latest driver here:

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

Next, please do the following updates on your computer:

1.) Please visit http://search.microsoft.com/ then manually search, download and install the following updates:

2.) DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer
3.) Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 (x86)
4.) Microsoft .NET Framework 4 (Web Installer)

5.) Run Windows Update and get all the critical updates released by Microsoft. It is very important that your Windows is updated:

For Windows 7: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/wind ... ws-updates

6.) Afterwards, reboot your computer and run the software.

====
Attempt 2. (after sending to Corel my new "msinfo32" and “dxdiag” information).

Their reply was:

I have tested your video clip, I checked its technical information and verified that it has an open source codec that requires a third-party software which can decode and encode this kind of codec in VideoStudio. I suggest that you download and install these third-party decoding/encoding software called ''FFDSHOW Tryouts'' and ''Xvid-1.3.2''; you may download these applications from here:

1.) ffdshow tryouts (FREE):

http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/

2.) Xvid-1.3.2 (FREE):

http://www.koepi.info/Xvid-1.3.2-20110601.exe

3.) CoreAVC Video Decoder (License):

http://www.corecodec.com/products/coreavc

--------------------------------

I have been unsuccessful with installing above codecs of ffdshow and Xvid.
I installed ffdshow first, then tried Corel X5. Then installed Xvid. I'm unsure if I should have uninstalled ffdshow before installing Xvid.
CoreAVC is ~ $13 so I've not tried that as yet.

All I did was import the video, put text on the image (for 30 seconds - the duration of the video clip), then viewed the project (without saving to any file type). The preview was either jerky, or did not change from the first frame.

May I ask which codecs you have installed on your PC?

Thanks

:)

Hi Margaret

Sorry for the delay in replying, i seemed to have missed your reply on the 24th.

I have downloaded your sample 2012_03_22 Lorikeets.avi file.

Using Video Studio
Although my comment regarding time lapse was intended as a joke, that's just my sense of humour the file is in fact a good example when played in VS

If you place the clip in the timeline then using the digital clock advance the video frame by frame you will see that there are approximatively 25 identical frames, the video then changes a little then there are a further 25 identical frames.

I see it changing on the full second 00:00:15:00 to 00:00:15:01
At least thats how Video Studio sees it
Can you confirm you see this effect.

Then "canuck" did not have any problems ?????????????

When I viewed the clip using VLC Player it appeared to play ok.

Very strange, i will try a few more tests?

Margaret....What are you intending to make with the clip, a video for the internet or a dvd?

lata wrote: Margaret....What are you intending to make with the clip, a video for the internet or a dvd?
1. I can insert this .avi file into the time line, then play it OK with the play button. All looks good.

2. I cannot save this video (no editing at all) in any format - it gives me the jerky/sl-mo/freeze frame effect.
In all the years of being a very happy X2 girl, I've never used the settings menu. So hopefully I have done nothing to use anything but whatever are the "out of the box" defaults.

3. I wanted to put a "watermark" text in the lower left hand corner that read "www.lyrebirdman.com" for the 3 seconds duration of the movie. If I play the first eg 10 seconds in preview (the first frame freezes with the time stamp within the movie itself 15:32:57). If that worked I'd make the watermark for the 30 seconds of the movie.

4. I wanted to put an image in front of the movie with the camera name details etc. and then post the video online eg. vimeo in HD, as an example of movie output of the Acorn 6210M HD camera http://www.trailcameras.com.au/ltl-6210mc.htm

If I could re register my X2 version I'd very happily go back to that. I bought X5 hoping it would allow me to do some very simple editing on this camera's output.

Thanks

:)

Hi Margaret

Yesterday I have updated ffdshow to the latest version, this allowed me to play ok in clip mode but just black screen in Project Playback.
I was able to use VS and Super to convert the video to another format which plays ok.
So i am sure i would be able to edit this file.
----------------------------

I now read your reply relating to the camera, i read the details on the web site and the camera produces HD H265 video.

So why is your sample video using ffdshow codec using 15 fps. this quality being very very low when compared to the HD H264.?

Do you still have the original footage recorded by the camera.?
If you intend the video for the internet then use the 720P option to record the footage, should create a file using 1280 x 720.

I downloaded ffdshow, beta 7 rev 3154 [2009-12-09] using the web site reference in Corel's email.
Xvid 1.3.2

Should I have only one of these codecs installed at the same time?
I had downloaded ffdshow, tried X5, then downloaded Xvid, tried X5.
Should I have deleted ffdshow before installing Xvid?

Agreed I could edit if did a conversion step, but if I have X5, I should not have to have an additional processing/conversion step of having to use Super?

What I uploaded to my dropbox is the original footage out of the camera.

It does seem weird that mediainfo and the properties option from X5 state it is 15 fps.

Agreed, but if we have have the camera setup out in the Aussie bush, we might get some magical footage of a never-seen-before event or species? ;)
I'd rather record in the best quality (the reason for purchasing this model) then downgrade with post-processing if all it is to show some segments online.

Oh, nice one. Thanks.

I bought the X5 in sort of panic mode trying to get a quick edit done. So coming from a very happy X2 girl, I've lots to learn from all of the new releases :)

Thanks

Re: X5 - unable to create output video (Share) - all jerky

Post by Ken Berry »

Should I have only one of these codecs installed at the same time?
I had downloaded ffdshow, tried X5, then downloaded Xvid, tried X5.
Should I have deleted ffdshow before installing Xvid?
No need to delete one or the other. Both work independently of each other. I have had both on my computer(s) for some time, with no conflicts.

FWIW, VLC also report 15 fps.

I have now downloaded your original file and have been playing around with it. The only thing I noticed about it was that the aspect ratio seems to be off. But I have rendered it to a variety of outputs and all play absolutely smoothly. The outputs I used were AVCHD (12920 x 1080 and 1440 x 1080); DVD 16:9 and 4:3; HD MP4; WMV 1080 25p; XVid and ffdshow.

To get the aspect ratio right, I disabled non-square pixel rendering in Options. DVD 16:9 with non-square pixel rendering disabled, HD MP4 and WMV gave the best results with the proper aspect ratio. However, when I played the WMV file back in WMP, the aspect ratio was wrong. But it played with the correct aspect ratio in VLC Player.

XVid and ffdshow also produced smooth results, but the aspect ratio was wrong and nothing I could do, including disabling or enabling non-aquare pixel rendering, could rectify it. Putting the video on an overlay track and adjusting its aspect ratio there seemed to be the only solution, though if you wanted full screen, some cropping would also be necessary.

Had you done the aspect ratio corrections at this stage?

May I ask where you set these Options?
I've looked in the Settings tab | Preferences
then each of the others below Settings.

How did you know which codecs are being used at any one time, when both are installed?

I've inserted video into the overlay track (the second row).
I can drag the the frame size so that the top and bottom of the inserted clip fill the window, with a black/blank border on r\left and right side of the frame (pardon my inability to explain).
Is this aspect correction?

Thanks so much.

I didn't need to do anything to get the aspect right in the WMV and MP4 ones. With the DVD one I did the aspect change thing...

And to find the disable non-square pixel rendering, whenyou go to Share > Create Video File > DVD, a dialogue box appears where you are asked to give the new file a name and select the format. And there is a button which says Options. Click that and you will see several little boxes, the second or third of which is 'Enable non-square pixel rendering'. If it is ticked (which it is by default), then un-tick it.

And finally, yes, that is what I measn by aspect correction for those formats where the above aspect correction did not work. But if you don't 'fill the window' then you can manually stretch it all out, either to leave black borders above and below, but with the correct aspect ratio from left to right. Or pull the whole thing out so it is in correct aspect and fills the white frame, though this will mean some of it will not be seen on screen i.e. it will be cropped.
