I downloaded the trial version of VS X5 in hopes that I could consolidate programs. I have and use Camtasia Studio
for screen capture and have no problems other than it's expensive and much more than I need.
I was hoping X5 would be the program that consolidated screen capture and video editing at a very reasonable price.
The problem I'm having is when I use screen capture to record a downloaded video (as an example) I get no sound.
I have no problem when I use the screen record function set to capture sound over the mic (voice).
If I record the same video with Camtasia Studio I have no sound problem.
I've been trying to solve this off and on for over two weeks. It would seem that if
Camtaisa Studio has no problems Video Studio X5 shouldn't either.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Brian thanks for your link to solve my problem. I had searched but evidently not used the proper search words.BrianCee wrote:Please read this topic regarding the same problem - see if there is any help there :-

Unfortunately in my case after reviewing and for the 20th time checking my
sound system settings I found nothing that needed to be changed in system sounds.
I again tried Camtasia Studio to capture the exact same you tube video (downloaded to my desktop) and
it had no problems with video quality or sound.
I also noted something I hadn't caught before the video quality of the capture (720P) was extremely lacking and nowhere
as refined as other programs.
The ironic part was the video I was trying to capture was Corels demo of screen capture in X5.

Hi
Can you fill in your profile to include your pc specification.
Select the User control Panel, profile tab.
XP and Windows 7 controls the audio differently. What is your operating system?
I am surprised that you are bothering with X5 screen capture as you say you have Camtasia Studio.
X5 Screen capture is a little limited in the formats it creates, if you can select a different format other than WMV at 15 fps I would like to know?

Initially I was hoping to be able to combine screen capture and video production in one program. I have discovered that X5 doeslata wrote: I am surprised that you are bothering with X5 screen capture as you say you have Camtasia Studio.

not produce a very good quality screen capture.
I have kind of given up using it for the screen capture I do, but this sound problem is driving me nuts. There has to be something I'm missing.

Hi geru
Read this reply then look at the Sound Check options to see if other input options are available to you.

Been there and done that twice now.lata wrote:Hi geru

I've quadruple checked my sound settings to no avail.
I've now uninstalled and reinstalled X5, updated video and sound drivers, went back to the old drivers, and am presently running the new drivers.
The results never changed. I can record using voice but can not record system sound.
I contacted Corel Support and received a reply that suggested removing and reinstalling, which I've already done.
I'm at the point of giving up on X5.
