Problem: When begining the burn phase, MovieFactory 4 hangs on my system.
Solution: I ran into this same problem with MovieFactory 3. I found out from Ulead that before starting the burn process - MovieFactory 3 does an environment system call to determine the DVD and CD burners present. It turns out that the system call they use hangs up if you do not have a disc in all!! of the DVD and CD burners.
It appears that Ulead still uses this same system call in MovieFactory 4. I spent a day trying to figure out why I was getting a system hang until I remembered that I had the same problem with Movie Factory 3.
The solution is to put blank discs in all burners.

Same Here, but blank is in the Drive.
Have installed the MF4 DL patch. Attempting a burn on a multiple ‘edited’ DVD. Works O.K. up to 50% “Burning to Disk” then stops. I was able to create an ISO file but MF will not burn even an ISO to DVD. The Burner checks out O.K. and I was able to burn the MF4 ISO to DVD using Roxio 6. There are no error messages and can not shut down the MF4 programs, Appears that ULEAD Data –Add 2.0 is/also locking up the system to the point of having to reboot.
i dont think you can burn using "Record to Disc" if the burner has no blank disc. a msg will appear saying there is no disc present.
i can create DVD folders/image even without disc inside the burner. (record to disc uncheck)
i suggest you contact their email support cause i think they have a dll fix for the data-add part.

I was having same problem with hang (at about 31%) when rendering. Through Control Panel Add/Remove I uninstalled ULead Data-Add 2.0 and after reboot problem was immediately solved.
ULead Data-Add 2.0 allows drag/drop of files to a CD/DVD disk from within Windows Explorer. This capability is something I can do without in ULead applications.
Hope this helps.

Maybe the Data Add feature is the bug. When I install MF4 I did not install this feature because I don't need it. I always do custom installing for any software & anything that is not needed, I won't load in. I think it has the same function as Nero InCd - gave me a lot of problems in my DVD production - I took it out too.
it is not recommended to have two packet writing software installed in your system (such as DataAdd, InCD, DragtoDisc, Sonic DLA). in my experience, Nero InCD, whether data-add is installed or not, causes burning problems.
i saw on other post that Ulead has a fix for the "burner busy" problem which is caused by Ulead data-add. According to them, not all users will see the "burner busy" (something like that) error message because some systems hangs before it can show the msg. i suggest you contact them through the ts form.
by the way, if you uninstall data-add, you wont be able to access DVD-VR discs via the explorer. you may access them using other packet writing software but it may cause burning problems.
