When viewing a video file, I examine it to see if there are any issues with A/V synching. When I confirm that everything is fine. I, then, author the file to DVD. However, when viewing it on a DVD player, the A/V is out of sync.
Is there something I can do to keep and audio in sync with the video before the conversion and burning process?

What format is the video? Where did it come from?
Even though the original file plays OK, this kind of problem is usually related (somehow) to the video file you are using. A different video file from a different video camera will probably work fine... Sometimes editing a "problem file" can cause this kind of problem, but if you make a DVD directly from the file without editing, it might turn-out OK.
You can try converting the file to DVD-compatible MPEG-2 (with LPCM or Dolby audio), then re-open the file to author the DVD. (You can get the DVD-compatible settings from your Project Settings.)
Even if your original file is MPEG-2, re-encoding the file may solve the problem.
I don't have the current version of Movie Factory, but if it can't do the conversion ,there are FREE 3rd-party programs that can do it. (I use [url=http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html]SUPER to transcode/re-encode "problem files".)

The file format is .MKV. I am told that this format is infamous for having A/V sync issues.
