VS X5 and GoPro HD (.mp4) videos

Post by Black Dog »

I was hoping that the new version had this fixed...

I got the VS 5X trial version going and no way that it can open a .MP4 file from a GOPRO HERO2 cam.

Cam settings:

960p: 1280×960, 48FPS + 30FPS - PAL. I got the VS 5X settings on PAL too... so this isn't the issue.

I always get the a textbox saing it is a wrong format file...

Tried to the X4 fix bug on it...you never know...didn't work. Now it even freezes the X5 so I have to reboot. The X4 fix bug doens't affect other files from non GOPRO cameras.

VS 5X is great program for newbies like me...but how long is the GOPRO HERO 2 on the market??? I find it most incredible that the new X5 version stil didn't have a sollution to this problem if I see/read all the problems there are with the other versions and GOPRO .MP4 files... For a brand like Corel. It's like Apple having a Phone where the software can't work with the 3G network.

Do I need to look out 4 another video editor? :?

You might give LightWorks a try. I have NOT tried it, but it's now FREE!!! (open source).

The specs don't specifically mention MP4 or GoPro, but it supports QuickTime, so it might be worth a try. It's only an editor, it doesn't author burn DVDs/Blu-Ray.

They do try to fix problems. But but after using Video Studio for a few years, it seems to me that most of their programming/development effort goes into adding new features.

I'd say very-few companies are in the same League as Apple. Apple probably has the best marketing of any company in the world. (I'm not a huge Apple fan... The only Apple product I own is an iPod. But I DO appreciate how well-run the company is.)

Hi

I have two sample clips from a GoPro camera. 1280 x 720 and 960x 720 both Pal.
I have no problems with these using X4 or X5

How are you trying to open the video files. Well not open but insert to the timeline.

Right click the timeline and select insert video, browse your hard drive for your files.
Or drag the files from windows explorer directly to the library or timeline

By the way 30fps is not a Pal standard, Pal uses 25fps. Either way it shouldn’t make a difference in inserting the clips.

Tried...nothing works.

GOPRO has a software..CINEFORM STUDIO...to convert to .MOV or to .AVI files. This works only with files made with the new GOPRO HERO2. Only crapy about is that it takes some time to convert and files from 1.5GB in original has like 10GB converted. 10Gig for a 25min file...

Hi

What version of Quick Time have you installed.

Please update to the latest version, QuickTime is required by Video Studio and Mpeg4 type video

If you still have problems can you make a short sample available to download, some users have used 4shared for this

Avi is just a container – Un-compressed Avi (raw avi) is aprox 65Gb per hour.
