I have PI8 and PI10 on this machine.. a P4 running Win2K sr4 latests updates all done.
I run End-It-All to remove all other unnecessary programs from memory.. but each time I open a JPG file and then try to do a "Save As" function and change the folder.. PI10 hangs.
Furthermore,SAVE works. SAVE AS works if all I do is change the file name... but any attempt to change the folder.. hangs PI10.
Now, sometimes I can hit the UP FOLDER button to move up the tree.. but it varries as to when the program will hang. Sometimes I can move up as high as MY COMPUTER (on my way to trying to SAVE AS tot he desktop).
Anyone else seeing this or have any clues for me?
BTW.. PI8 still does everything perfectly.
Thanks.

Have you gotten and installed the PI 10 patch to see if that stops the cross folder incompatibility?

oh yes, PI10 is fully patched
downloaded all the patches even before I installed it.. also ran the intelligent update thing.
It is such a bizarre problem.. SAVE works, SAVE when changing the name works. SAVE AS causes a hang. Yet all three of these functions work with PI8, on same files on same machine.
And to check this out further, I installed everything on a slightly older AMD-Win2K machine and these functions work with PI10... even though I also saw some odd behaviors there that included hangs when working on large files..
But lets focus on one thing at a time.. the SAVE AS hang.

According to Microsoft your problem was a minor bug that was fixed in SP 1 of Win 2000, but only affected the Server version.
If you installed on another computer and PI 10 worked, then it sounds as though the Install was bad on the troubled computer, and didn’t write to the Registry as required leaving the Dialog Box crippled. You’re probably missing a Key value in the registry. PI only lists a Save to Option in the Registry but not a Save As option, and on that basis is would be the old uninstall, clean all of the Ulead System folders out and try to reinstall once again. Making sure you turn all of the Anti-virus, Firewall, and any other programs in the background off during installation.
An inconvenience no doubt for all, I don’t know why Ulead has a lot of install “malfunctions” with several of their applications, especially PI. There doesn’t seem to be a remedy for most of us with the above exception.
Personally I had to install 6 times before I got PI 10 to work and still have, “bad behavioral traits.” Ulead seems to be suffering enormous growing pains!

thanks for the response
to be clear.. the SAVE AS option is available.. it simply hangs.
I will try to reinstall again later this week.

yeah, I get the picture
Its funny though that this software goes for about twice that as a computer game and those games have better support.. I have been using PI since.. oh.. at least version 3, possibly earlier.. hard to remember that far back. And upgraded every time... and this is the first time that I am disappointed in the quality.
Its not the end of the world for me. PI10 seems to be working fairly well on my 2GB memory AMD machine. WHile the 1GB memory pentium machine I first installed it on continues to be unuseable.
I have noticed, keenart, that you are particularly helpful to others on this board. Thanks for that.
If there were a list of known issues (along with some status as to whether the issues are being worked on or not), that would go a long way to keeping customers satisfied.
Now that Adobe is embracing "smart objects", I can see the potential for people to leave PI for teh Adobe entry level products. Not saying I am ready to do that.. but if ULEAD doesn't get their act together, it will happen.
