Hi,
I have a bunch of Mini Dv tapes that I would like to capture. The captured videos are named using today's datestamp. Is there a way to save them using the datestamp from when they were taken?
Example; instead of uvs120319-001.avi (which is today's date) name the file uvs070515-001.avi (the date that video was taken).

Once captured you can rename them to whatever you like using the standard windows procedure for changing file name - in Windows Explorer or 'My Computer' - but you need to do it manually - VS cannot do it for you

Thnx, that's what I figured when my search turned up "nada." Doing it manually would be (nearly) impossible, there are many tapes and each have video from multiple dates. You'd think the developers at Corel would address some of the low hanging fruit. All the data is there, you can see it while the capture is going on, but it gets wiped and replaced when you save it (or at least I can't see it). How hard would it be to give the option to save the files using the date take?

I have used the small, free utility called WinDV to capture video from DV tapes in the past. It will capture your video based on the timestamp and save it to individual files named according to the time stamp. It only works with Firewire capture and captures to DV avi.
Here is the link to the utility: http://windv.mourek.cz/. It is an old utility and has not been updated in a long time but apparently still works with Vista and Windows 7
You can also do a google search on "WinDV" to find out more information
