ASP wont save or export any of my edits
ASP wont save or export any of my edits
Im running on the latest Ubuntu Linux, in 64BIT mode on an AMD based machine.
I understand how nondestructive editing works, etc.
However, after im done editing/tweaking a photo in ASP, I wish to export or save it externally with all the edits/tweaks applied.
Cant seem to do it! What am I missing?
Every time I do a file save as, or send files to a selected batch, ASP always exports a completely un- retouched JPG version of the RAW files. All of my edits are stripped during save or export.
HELP. Love ASP... but this is driving me mad.

Sounds quite weird.
Can you post a screenshot of your queue and the XMP file for a sample image?
cheers

Not sure what you mean by "screenshot of your queue".
You want the XMP file of an exported image?

Re: ASP wont save or export any of my edits
maybe you somehow messed up file permissions? (i.e. your user got no write permissions to the xmp files)

If you got any immediate problems with my plugins, don't by shy on contact me on GoogleTalk.

Thought of that.... running ASP as root on linux so it has full power to over write any file anywhere.spoilerhead wrote:maybe you somehow messed up file permissions? (i.e. your user got no write permissions to the xmp files)
No dice.
At least now I know its not supposed to work like this. I figured there was some trick to saving a file I wasnt aware of.
May need to do a full re-install maybe... and try again

While debugging an issue, ill try anything. Prefer not to run as root, but that removes all the permission variables from the equation until I figure out what the problem is

Fair game, I would have written it differently then though. It sounded as like you do this by default.jost wrote:While debugging an issue, ill try anything.

Not if the directories are remote mounted, though. Did you try to run ASP through strace? that should show all error messages the C library gets back from the file system.jost wrote:While debugging an issue, ill try anything. Re: ASP wont save or export any of my edits
Just for reference, I'm seeing a similar behaviour that for some images my changes get lost. "Prefferably" when I have 2 versions of a file with one version is cropped and the other isn't, I get 2 uncropped versions.jost wrote:Every time I do a file save as, or send files to a selected batch, ASP always exports a completely un- retouched JPG version of the RAW files. This is in filesystem mode, but I haven't tracked that down further.
Maybe this has something to do with the problem that sometimes the wrong file (version) is deleted? (Don't have the reference.)
Bye,
Michael

Jost,
you have tried after moving your cache folder and rootdb out of the way? Both are located in your user asp folder.

Re: ASP wont save or export any of my edits
I think that what you are missing is that you need to go into the Output tab and send file to a queue.
If you do this then you get asked where you want to save the file(s) and the image is saved with all your changes in the desired directory.
It is not as simple as SaveAs but a send to an Output queue that sends it to a Batch that processes it as a JPG (full size)/TIFF/JPG (small) or whatever batches you have created.
Initially this seems slower but once everything is set up it actually makes sense!

Still learning after all these years!

Re: ASP wont save or export any of my edits
In my early Bibble days, I exported my JPG's from Bibble into the same folder/directory as my RAW...
But the original JPG file (I used to shoot RAW+JPG
) was already there. Which I indeed saw as unedited as it was not replaced by the export from Bibble
.
Hope your problem is not something similar?

Re: ASP wont save or export any of my edits
Hello
Did anyone ever get to the bottom of this?
I have a similar problem.
I make the usual non-destructive amendments to the RAW to produce a clear, bright image.
The I batch process to a JPEG. JPEG comes out beautifully, just the same as in ASP. This is as viewed in the standand Windows 7 photo viewer which opens when you open an image file.
Then I upload to my website. The uploaded version is horriby murky/not bright, as though all the ASP non-destructive edits have been stripped out! This does not happen with any other JPEGS, just the ones created in ASP. I am wondering whether there is some kind of JPEG sidecar file (never heard of one before), the settings from which show when I view on my computer but do not show when I upload just the JPEG to my website. Seems unlikely but this is the only thing I can think of other than maybe there is something about ASP JPEGS that gets mangled in standard ISP image-crushing sofware like ImageMagick.
If anyone can help I'd be grateful.
Love ASP by the way - great functionality/workflow - I just need to resolve this issue.
Peter
