Hi
I am new to ASP, but have a fundamental newbie question.
If I import folders into the Catalog, I understand that these in effect reference the source location. What happens if I then move the source files into say a back up hard drive?
does this mess up Catalog? Can I continue to edit the master version or can it no longer find the source file and so becomes a problem
Thank you
Affect of delete source files

Re: Affect of delete source files
After looking at your query and trying to sort out an answer for you, I discovered that if an xmp file is deleted (which holds the picture edit information) for a picture, then you shut down and then reopen ASP, the xmp file is created again. Not sure what this means exactly. I'll look further

If you moved the source photos, you wont be able to edit them anymore, even though you can see the photos inside AfterShot, in short it will mess up your catalog.

Re: Affect of delete source files
If the picture has been imported into the catalogue (and the option to always write an xmp file has been selected), then the xmp file is just a sort of dump of what is inside the catalogue database: that's the very reason it's recreated each time. ASP won't read it back while in catalogue mode, no other program will use it, but it's a very effective insurance against DB corruption (and, if you copy image and xmp on an external drive, ASP in file system mode on another computer will read it).seebee wrote:After looking at your query and trying to sort out an answer for you, I discovered that if an xmp file is deleted (which holds the picture edit information) for a picture, then you shut down and then reopen ASP, the xmp file is created again. If the picture has not been imported, removing the xmp will delete every editing.
