Hi
Start a new project...add the video file.
for a test you can cut the video clip in the timeline reducing its duration to maybe one minute.
rendering a minute should only take a short while.
Place the timeline curser selecting a start point, hit the scissors.
The clip will be cut into two, the second section will be selected.
advance the digital clock by one minute(lower Right of preview screen) hit the scissors again will create the one minute section.
Delete the other two. You should now have one minute of video on the timeline.
video is jumping/jerking/skipping

Re: video is jumping/jerking/skipping
Hi lata,
I did what you said in that I extracted the highlights of the long video, converted to MPEG-4 HD, then copied into my final video, thus reducing the size by a long way. This appears to have worked. Thanks for your help on the matter. I guess I'd still be lost if I needed an HD quality video (maybe my laptop just can't cope with it), but seeing as this is just for youtube all is well.

Hi
Glad to hear you have managed to produce a good video.
I don't think you should compare your laptops ability when using these video files.
The frame size is a little strange to say the least.
Using HD with compliant settings may well work ok on your pc, unfortunately there are so many varieties of video, not all are easy to edit.
