Hi All
just got videostudio 8 plus JVC miniDV camcorder.
My question is.. is it possible to capture movies via firewire card onto my PC without having to view the whole movie as it is captured? With a digital still camera I can view all the files on the camera and drag them across to my pc - is this possible for mini dv? can I not just select a movie file to copy acroos rather than view the whole thing?
I'm sure I'm missing something blindingly obvious here so please excuse my ignorance
Thanks and Happy New Year, Charlie

No - because the video is stored on a tape in your camera - not like a digital stills camera where they are stored as individual image files on a card, You do not have to capture the whole video though - although you will still have to watch it all the way through and mark those sections you want but you can use 'Batch Capture' to transfer just the bits you want - but at the present time with a DV tape camera you do not have any 'quick' options - it all happens in real time.

Hi Charlie
No!
Although you have a digital camcorder the information is stored on tape.
The video footage is stored as Dv-Avi files.
In order to transfer the footage (capture) to Video Studio you have to play the tape.
The best capture method is via Firewire IEEE 1394, selecting DV as a format will capture your footage to Dv-Avi.
Using Video Studio you can specify a capture duration, capture being terminated when the time is reached.
