Hi, just downloaded the VS Pro X5 trial version. When editing the HD video, the playback is very choppy.
The video were taken by Panasonic HD camera in MTS format, at 1920x1680, with frame rate 29 frames/s. The project is consisted with about 50 clips, each clip is about 10 ~30 second length. When editing, the playback for each clip is clear and smooth. However, when put together, trying to see the project, it will become very slow and choppy, especially after add a couple of transition like cross fade in between. I have not get to the step of seeing the finished product is smoothy or choppy.
My system is Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit. CPU: Amd Phenom II X4 965 3.4G, 8GB ram, graphic card is nVidia GTX 260. Hard drive with over 100G free space. 2 hard disks, one is 5400RPM, the other 7200rpm, tried on both, same problem. Benq BL2400 Led & Samsung 205BW.
Tried Power Director 9, a little sluggish, but acceptable.
Tried to use the proxy, no improvement.
So any help?
Thanks!
Why the video editing is choppy?

Re: Why the video editing is choppy?
Do you have hardware acceleration enabled in Preferences?
It sounds strange that using SmartProxy did not help. As you may know, that creates standard definition copies of your AVCHD original video. You do the edits to the proxy files and then when satisfied, they are applied to the AVCHD. But it takes some time for the proxy files to be created, and you have quite a few clips. I am wondering if you gave it enough time?

I checked all the hardware acceleration I could find. And I think I gave enough time for it since I have edited it for couple of days.

Re: Why the video editing is choppy?
Thank you Ken again!
I checked the proxy using proxy manager, there is only one clip there. So I selected all the clips and added them to the proxy manually. Now everything goes like a charm.
