Ulead 11 Wont import AVI file

Post by thefakefatshady »

Hi there,

Sorry if this post is answered somewhere else (Ive tried looking and cant find it)

I'm running Ulead Video Studio 11, and I have AVI files I have downloaded from the internet. When I try to import them into Ulead I get the following message - ''(FILENAME) is not accessible'' followed by ''These files cannot be added to this project. These files may be of unknown file format, the computer does not have enough memory or the file is copyright protected''

If I right click the files, this is the info I get -

Image
624x352 Pixels

Audio
142kbps
MPEG Layer 3

Video
23 Frames Per Second
1117kbps

Am I missing some form of codec for this particular AVI ??

Thanks in advance

Mick

Could you perhaps post a link to one of those avi files? Some of us could download it and see if we have the same problems.

cAlmost undoubtedly it is a codec question. Unfortunately, the information you provided on its properties (from Windows Explorer?) does not give us any information as to exactly which codec might have been used. You see, there are over 800 different file formats which call themselves avi since that is only a wrapper format. If you could look for a freeware program called GSpot, it will give more information as to the exact codec used...

Hi Ken thanks for the GSpot tip

I ran it and this is what I got

Audio - 0x0055 MPEG-1 Layer 3
Video - XviD ISO MPEG-4 - Codec(s) are NOT Installed

OK so I need to get an Xvid codec?

Ohh no!

Problem again! The audio is out of sync when I load the files up. The audio comes about 2 seconds before the event.

The files are perfectly in sync when played with VLC or whatever, but loaded up in Ulead the audio is way out

... And if you render the project to some other format in VS, is the sync still out? If so, then disable SmartRender...

Hi Ken,

Yeah I mixed it to MPEG 2 and the sync was still out. I kinda think Smart Render may already be disabled. I clicked File/Preferences and on the Smart Proxy tab the 'Enable Smart Proxy' box is unchecked.

No. SmartProxy is essentially to make it easier to process high definition video on less powerful computers.

SmartRender is for only rendering parts of a project to which edits have been made. But it is for rendering from one format to the same format. In your case you are going from one format to the other, so SmartRender doesn't apply there anyway...

As I said, it does not apply in your case since you are rendering from one format to a different one. But you normally disable it when you go to Share > Create Video File and choose the format. Then in the dialogue box which opens where you give your new file a name, click on the Options button. SmartRender is listed in the new window which appears. Untick it.
