Photoimpact X3 - How to erase layer

Post by LukeDouglas »

I've used PhotoImpact for almost 10 years up to PI8 but the disc I have is no longer readable. So I downloaded and installed PI X3. Needless to say, I'm a bit lost.

I've figured out a few things but I want to paste an altered duplicate of an image on top of the current image and then erase everything except what I want to keep. This basically allows me to merge the two images and have only the changes I want on the altered image to now be on the current image. In PI8, you simple selected the Erase tool, set your eraser character and size, the softness of the edges, and transparency, then just erase away. Easy.

Can someone give me a step by step of how I can do the same thing in PI X3?

While you're at it, can you tell me how to do color replacement? It was 'so' easy on PI8 but I can't find how to do it on PI X3 as there is no color selection option, just sampling of the current image, which sucks.

Finally, cloning!!!! I click on the Brush / Clone Tools, select Air Brush, set transparency to '0' and softness to '25', select the location on the image I want to clone from and then go to the image I want to clone to but NOTHING gets cloned. ARGH!

A little assistance would be greatly appreciated. :)

Please remember that we are not Corel workers, just users of the software like you and don't have all answers to questions.

Also, it would be good if you look in the help files and type in Eraser.........etc. You will get your answers there.

I really don't think the erasing has changed from PI8 to PIX3,

As for your image, which I assume is open in PIX3, copy and paste the image you wish to place over it. It will be highlighted like a selection. Once you click on that you will see two layers in Layer Manager, base image and obj-1.

I'm not sure which image it is you want to erase? However, if you select the eraser from the toolbar you should there are are two options. Object Magic eraser and Object Paint eraser.
Choose the painter erase and change the settings on the attribute bar, particularly the If you wish to erase with a soft edge, change the setting on the menu bar. An image/object must be selected in order to erase.

Colour replacement, paint something on a canvas. Go to Adjust on the Menu bar, Colour Replacement. When the dialogue opens, use the tools to change your colours.

Cloning : Open the image you want to clone. Have your blank or other canvas by the side. Choose a clone brush, in your case the airbrush. Tap on the original image whilst holding the shift key. Let go then move onto your blank canvas and paint without lifting the brush.

If I may suggest your sign up for the PhotoImpact Beginner's Workshop that covers everything you have requested above and so much more about PhotoImpact X3. Here is the link.
