[Bug?] Not all Images imported to Catalog
Hi!
I use Aftershot Pro in Ubunut Linux 11.10. I really like the most Functions and i think it's good to handle with my Pictures, but there is an Issue that is horrible for me!
For example:
Yesterday i tried to Import 11 photos to my Global-Catalog. I used the Download-Function. ASP copied all Photos to my defined Photo-Directory (Pictures/%year%/%month%/%day%). But in the Database only 9 of them appear. The first 2 Photos are not imported in the Catalog. I tried to import them manually, but they wont appear in the Database. There is no error message. If i try a second time to import the photos it dont work at all, every time these 2 Photos are affected.
If i create an new Catalog, i can "download" all Photos without Problems and all Pictures are shown correct in the Database.
This happens quite often (1 time per week) and is very annoying! To work around this i create an new Global-Catalog and import all my Photos again. But this is not that what i want..
Is this an known error? How can i avoid this?
I hope my English is not too bad..

If your saving all your photos in a year/month/day structure, why not use fspot to import from your camera card, and then run ASP and import them into your libraries? That's what I do and haven't noticed a problem although I haven't been shooting much this winter.

Re: [Bug?] Not all Images imported to Catalog
Do Fspot import the RAW-Images without editing somethin in these Files?
Im not sure if that solve the Problem, because if i choose to import the Files without the Download-Function it dont work at all :/
And only some files are affected by this problem. Not all files.

Have you tried resetting the cache by pressing the shift key while opening ASP? I've had instances where files don't show up and this has fixed the problem.

Re: [Bug?] Not all Images imported to Catalog
There was an issue with fspot changing the dates, I believe that was resolved some time ago, but it may strip out some of other exif data though. Shotwell is another app that may be the default for Ubuntu 11:10, I know they were talking that way, but if not, it can be downloaded from Ubuntu's repository.
What I do is import via fspot from the camera to hard disk, then run ASP and import from the directory tree into libraries. With Bibble I could use the directory tree for multiple libraries, haven't tried that with ASP yet.

Okay, i will try that today.MarkZ wrote:Have you tried resetting the cache by pressing the shift key while opening ASP? I've had instances where files don't show up and this has fixed the problem.
Is the cache for the whole Program or for every Catalog?

Messing with the cache will not help when the problem is in the DB. The DB is its own cache, the cache cleaned with the shift key is the one used when using FS mode.cluhn wrote:Is the cache for the whole Program or for every Catalog?MarkZ wrote:Have you tried resetting the cache by pressing the shift key while opening ASP? Re: [Bug?] Not all Images imported to Catalog
Is it not possible to "reset" the cache of the DB? The DB-files seems to be binary, are they some kind of SQL-Database? Can i edit it with some tools? Maybe theres an incorrect entry that can be fixed..
It's very annoying to create every week one new Catalog and import there all Photos.
By the way: Is it possible to import Photos with "Download" recursiv?

A reset would be the deletion of the DB.cluhn wrote:Is it not possible to "reset" the cache of the DB?
It is an sqlite DB, so the usual suspects for messing with sqlite can be used, but that could be risky...The DB-files seems to be binary, are they some kind of SQL-Database? Can i edit it with some tools? Maybe theres an incorrect entry that can be fixed..
It does it by default....By the way: Is it possible to import Photos with "Download" recursiv?

Re: [Bug?] Not all Images imported to Catalog
Hm..
I created a new Catalog.. and imported all Pictures again, at the Moment only my Photos from 2012 are imported, but if i import all my old Photos and all the Future Photos it will take long time to import everything again. I hope this issue get fixed sometime.

Re: [Bug?] Not all Images imported to Catalog
I've never actually used the download function of BIbble or ASP (other than to test), so i don't know whether it's fixed or when it will be.
But, i think the easy workaround is to use the file system to download the pictures off the card, or use a dedicated downloader like Rapid Photo Downloader. I think F-spot is rather heavy handed just to download pics off a card.
I would only import pictures into my catalogue once they are already on disk. For me, that worked just fine, no bugs there.
