Screen Capture Audio Problem
I apologize if this has been covered. "Search" didn't like the terms system audio as "too common".
In any case, when I try to enable System Audio in the screen capture setup, I get an error message saying that it can't find any system audio.
System audio is working fine on my system, and neither Camtasia, CamStudio nor two other screen capture applications that I use have any problem with this whatsoever.
If any ideas, I'd appreciate it!
Thanks -

Re: Screen Capture Audio Problem
I don't think you would have found any previous questions Brian - Screen capture only became available in X5 which was only released just over a week ago - so it's a bit of a learning curve for all of us - but we have some very clever members on the forum so let's see who can help you.

Re: Screen Capture Audio Problem
I get the same message, and like Brian Taylor, my audio is otherwise working fine. I have tried to enable manually but nothing seems to work so far. I have also gone into Windows audio control, but still no luck. Will work on it and report back.

Re: Screen Capture Audio Problem
did try and check if the system audio is enabled, please follow these steps.
1. Open Control Panel by clicking on START then select CONTROL PANEL, from there you can either click on SOUNDS, SPEECH, and AUDIO DEVICES or SOUND icon.
2. From the Sound Control Panel screen, click on the Recording Tab then right-click on any empty space then select “SHOW DISABLED DEVICES”.
3. All the disabled devices will then appear and then right-click on the device that appeared then select “ENABLE”.
4. After enabling the device, right-click on it again then select SET AS DEFAULT DEVICE , then just click on APPLY or OK to accept the settings.

Re: Screen Capture Audio Problem
Should I understand 'System Audio' to be any sounds the computer might play, including the noises it makes when you try to do something it doesn't like AND sound that might accompany a video clip? I followed Abiel's suggestion to 'show disabled devices' but it showed nothing more, only the microphone already showing. I would guess I should be trying to access the sound or video card. Should I be assuming that turning on 'System audio' under Screen Capture [if I could] might allow the capture of audio that is part of a video?
Thanks, Peter

Re: Screen Capture Audio Problem
Hi Peter
Yes the System Audio controls all audio you hear on your PC.
Windows 7 will use a different audio system to say XP, different sound cards will display the System Audio properties panels differently.
This makes it a little difficult to compare what you have to others.
For XP
There are two main properties,
1 / Playback (aka Volume Control –Master Volume) this controls the input channels that you hear through the speakers. You can mute individual channels, I mute the Mic otherwise when I speak I hear my voice through the speakers, (producing feedback) other systems do this automatically. Generally all other channels are selected—not muted
2/ Recording (Input Devices)
Shows the devices you can record from.
You can only select one channel, if you wish to record your voice select Mic. Other PC’s may do this automatically.
If you are using Screen capture and you are using the mic to record your voice, the video audio playing from the timeline will not be recorded.
At least I do not think you can do that.
Given time I will look at Windows 7 to explore the system audio?

In Windows 7 first RIGHT click on the loudspeaker icon in your system tray and from the pop-up choose "Recording Devices" - the panel shown in the first picture will open - double click on the device you want to use - another panel will open - use that and the tabs along it's top to set up your microphone.

Re: Screen Capture Audio Problem
Unfortunately, that has solved nothing for me. X5 screen capture continues to report "No system audio detected."
I have tried with my preamp feeding the rear panel "line in," the USB (in the attached image , and with the rear panel mic port connected to my condenser mic. All the other applications I use that are sound enabled can see the currently selected device, just not Corel. Not a show stopper, but it is an irritant, to say the least.
My system
MB Intel DX58S02 with 24GB installed RAM
CPU Intel 980x running at 4.1GHz
Onboard Sound is Realtek HD Audio Manager
Any further suggestions welcomed.
Bob

Re: Screen Capture Audio Problem
Hi Bob
I am a little confused in exactly what audio you are trying to capture, Getting confused seems to get easier of late.
If you are trying to record your voice through the mic then that channel is via the Audio Settings Voice option
You can click Sound Check will open another window allowing you to choose a mic, I have selected AK5370, my logitech mic.
I can adjust the Input Volume and see the audio green level indicator.
If the green level shows correctly then you should be able to record your voice during screen capture. Is that what you are trying to do?
Or
Are you wanting to capture the sounds made by your pc?

Re: Screen Capture Audio Problem
Trevor [and Abiel],
Running VSX5 ultimate on W-7, I am trying to record system audio.
With or without a video clip open on the screen, when I click on the 'I' half of the button alongside 'system audio' in screen capture window I get the message 'No system audio detected. Please make sure this is enabled on your computer and try again.' This happens with 'Voice' button on or off.
When following Abiel's suggestion [No.5 in this thread] shows no additional devices after step 2 [other than microphone already showing].
In 'Device Manager' under 'Sound, video and Game controllers' it shows the microphone and 4 entries on the tree of 'NVIDIA High Definition Audio' [showing locations 1 to 4]. I would expect I might need to access these to record system audio.
Regards, Peter

Re: Screen Capture Audio Problem
Hi Peter
Thanks for the clarification, with all the screen shots showing the Mic settings which are not System Audio I was getting a little confused.
I guess you have no problems doing a screen capture and recording audio via the mic? Voice over.
I am using Windows XP, unfortunately the System Audio is not supported with XP only Vista and W7.
My wife has a W7 laptop, I will give it a try, but if everyone else can’t get it working then there is little hope for me.
So what audio are you trying to record? I assume the audio from a video playing in the timelines.?

Re: Screen Capture Audio Problem
Hi Bob/peter
I have managed to activate the System Audio on my wifes laptop.
Go to the recording tab of your sound properties window, right click below the icons on a clear part, choose Show Disconnected Devices
You should now see the Stereo Mix option, activating that allowed the System Audio to be available for screen capture.
Does that help

Re: Screen Capture Audio Problem
Trevor,
I wish I could report success but ticking 'Show disconnected devices' produces no change in the window [as reported in my post of 20/3]. I am on my laptop with VSX5 installed so can include a screen capture after clicking 'show disabled devices' [and one of the device manager which may be relevant].
I am really only trying to sort out how X5 works at present but the Screen Capture might be handy for capturing an occasional video from the web and it would be nice to know if it is supposed to be able to capture the sound as well
