Can anyone tell me if it's possible to filter by/sort by "edited" photos. Example: I have a set of JPEG photos, some of which I edit. I need to copy over a set of photos for uploading to my photo site. The edited photos need to be "resaved" in JPEG in order for my edits to stick (correct?), whereas the unedited ones only need to be "copied" to another directory. I'd like to be able to filter for only the edited photos, to save me from manually looking for the paintbrush icon in the thumbnails.
Additionally, is it possible to invert the selection in ASP? From above, after selecting the ones to be resaved, I'd like to invert the selection to capture all the photos that only need to be copied. Most photo apps have this feature, but I don't see it in ASP.
Thanks.
Carl

As far as I understand ASP . and like most of the normal users, I have only been using it since the beginning of the year - you can do what you are talking about thus:
Flag all the photos you have edited a specific colour, or a specific number of stars
Use the filter functionality to show only the thumbnails of the photos you flagged
Select All
Drag to an output queue that loads them into the specified directory on your web site, print server, or whatever
The filter function has "not equal" functionality, so you can use one criterion to select, and then easily reverse it.
Now, it's easy when you say it quick, and you may find (I did) that learning to use the filters so they display all - and only all - the thumbnails you want will take some time. But it is worth the effort. So is the creation of output queues specific to the purpose; if you are on windows, you can even invoke the uploaders to picasa and other such services.
I would also recommend you keep your eyes peeled for the release of afx's ASP Survival Guide. I found the Bibble Survival Guide quite helpful, and still refer to it when I am stuck with ASP.

Re: How to filter for only "edited" photos? Invert selection
Thanks for the reply, Mike. I have already applied different colours and stars to my images and I am able filter the thumbnails to display the ones I want. However, I can't find any way to only display the images that have been edited (i.e., the ones showing a little paint brush icon on the thumbnail). I guess that functionality hasn't been added yet. Thanks for the tip about the Survival Guides--I'll keep an eye out for those. ASP has so much promise and I'm very enthusiastic about it.

I hadn't understood your question referred specifically to the paintbrush flagged thumbnails. I just checked the BSG, and it does not document this as yet unimplemented
feature.
You could still use the accept/reject flags (if you can remember) to indicate which images you have indicated. Or you can do what I do (admittedly, because I work in Linux, and have to do uploads outside ASP), and transfer each image to the output queue as I complete the edits.

Finding and filtering of images that have been edited by the user is one of the many features that should be easy to implement.
Note to the Corel developers: Have a look at Apple's Aperture to see how seemingly smooth it works there and helps thousands of photographers with their editing work.
Thanks to Carl for the pointer!

I also wonder why there never was a "show edited" filter. I also use stars rating to mark my pictures but sometimes I just miss one or two and then I wish there would be a "show edited" option.

Re: How to filter for only "edited" photos? Invert selection
Point 1 is well taken however you can import all photos with the keyword "unedited" and as you edit delete this keyword and then do your searchs (this is my work around - actually my download settings automatically add the keyword "New Photo" and I remove this keyword when I am finished with my edits).
Point 2 can be achieved with the "Equal/Does not Equal" that most fitler keys have and ascend and descend can also be choosen...

My workflow is to use color labels: red is in the default preset, yellow means geotagged but not tagged, and so on... Purple is published or delivered.kaymann wrote:Point 1 is well taken however you can import all photos with the keyword "unedited" and as you edit delete this keyword and then do your searchs (this is my work around - actually my download settings automatically add the keyword "New Photo" and I remove this keyword when I am finished with my edits).
