PUREHD: a neverending story!

Post by fabiosiciliano »

Hi folks, I've hunted high and low over the Internet for months just to find a solution, but never found it!

I use Outlook XP for my email. When I try to open emails from Facebook from my InBox folder I get the following message in a dialog box with a progress bar:
Please wait while Windows configures Pure HD
Gathering the required information...
That very annoying dialog appears many times, it seems a loop, as that configuration was never successful.

I have to cancel it at least 3 times before I can go on.

I had a look, for instance, at:
...but no given suggestion applies.

Many Internet resources state that the origin of these troubles is a PureHD package bundled with Corel products, but I really don't know if this is the case: I have Corel PaintShop Photo Pro X3 (w/SP5) and I've tried to uninstall and reinstall it many times, but it did not solve the problem: anyway, this problem appeared first many weeks after the last PSP update and till then I used it frequently without any side issue.

My OS is Windows XP Professional SP3.

Default browser is IE8, but I use also Firefox 10, Chrome,Netscape, Opera, Safari... but I really don't think it's a browser-related issue.

Any WORKING suggestion?

Thank you in advance.

I googled pure HD and in another forum I found this solution

Note - it is not my original so I cannot say if it will work.
Something like this was bugging me too after installing a Corel product, until after some research I discovered it's software produced by a company called Ulead.

For me the fix was to locate and disable the USIShellExt installed by Ulead. It's HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{DBD8E168-244D-448C-9922-25508950D1DC} under your registry. You may want to export this key in case something goes wrong, but it shouldn't. Delete this key and reboot and you should be fine.
please be very careful when modifying the registry - I strongly suggest you make a back up before making changes so that you can replace if you make an error
