Yes you should have Quick Time installed.

Installed Quicktime 7.5.5, and completely removed Nero using Neroclean, no change.

I've connected an external usb dvd burner and can now share/create a disc which is a start, but still can't render video files.

If you are getting the “Unspecified Error” when creating a disc using VideoStudio Pro X4, you may want to follow the steps from this KB.
