What are the benefits of MPEG-4 production

Post by jjmiller »

I see that MPEG-4 is handled by a Plug in I buy for VS9 that is in-addition to the main product.

My question is: What is the benefit of MPEG-4 video? Is it useful for online video clips or DVD use? Why would I want to buy this PLUG-IN?

Thanks.

Oh, doesn't the Video Toolbox product off the same thing? Or am I missing something?

MPEG4 is much more efficient than MPEG2, but it is also not as universal.

MPEG2 is the standard format for DVDs, and most DVD players do not play disks with MPEG4 on them. I wouldn't get the codec unless you are producing videos for playback on fairly powerful computers.

So, MPEG -4 give me nothing (no advantages?) when it comes to Video clips for the Internet???? Is that correct?

Video via the internet is my primary concern for lessons right now. Thanks!

Mpeg4 gives good resolution for a smaller file size and can be transferred
easier over the internet because it can produce a smaller filesize with good
resolution.

When you hear of people downloading movies most of them are divx/Mpeg4
movies. Each movie about 1-1/2 to 2 hours is approx 900kBytes. The same
movie in DVD format would be about 6 gigaBytes.
It can also be streamed for internet/network use.

If you want to send video over the intermet I would use the microsoft
streaming format, Microsoft Movie Maker. Should already be on your
XP system.

Hope this helps,

Almost 1gigabyte.

Thanks much.

I used VS 9 and saved in Good Mode for WMV file. 46 Megs for a 12 minute file. Would MPEG 4 been smaller?

Of course, then the I might not know if the user could handle a MPEG-4 file... I would assume this might be the short coming. Yes?

Thanks for the informaion. I am slowly learning this stuff!
