Post by mreinsmith »

I was setting up some of my defaults in the newly installed X5 and I went to setup a flv template, and no flash option!?!?

What am I missing?

No, I don't appear to have any in my X5 either, which seems very strange since previous versions could do so. Even stranger is the fact that they have provided a whole range of .swf flash files in the Samples > Video sub-directory.

As an experiment, I tried creating an .flv custom template using Settings > Make Movie Template Manager, and the Add button under that. When I navigated to one of my .flv files, however, X5 could not see it, so I could not build the template.

I will seek advice from Corel about this and report back.

The Corel exec in charge of VS has provided a quick response. He says that google bought on2 who made this codec. They now call it webm. Though webm is not among the main outputs listed when you select Share > Create Video File, you can create a Custom template for webm using Share > Create Video File > Custom > choose webm as the format, then click the Options button to choose your settings.

I suspect, personally, that this might be a somewhat simplified response, since webm appears to have been a separate codec not originally associated with Adobe/Macromedia Dreamweaver which I think pioneered the Flash format. However, it appears now that even Adobe has included support for webm into Flash. YouTube also encodes now in webm as well as h.264. See http://mashable.com/2010/05/19/google-webm-html5/ If anyone else has a clearer explanation, I'd like to hear it.

I know adobe have dropped flash for mobile, one of the reasons behind this was due to Apple not allowing it on their products!!!!
So much for making Microsoft drop their products like WMP in windows so people can have a choice, close one giant down you get another take it's place.
