choppy audio and video on pro x4

choppy audio and video on pro x4
I just purchased Pro X4 online and the audio and video is choppy when I try to edit the video. I thought it was just my computer, but when I burned a DVD yesterday, it also came out incredibly choppy. Does anyone know how I can fix this, please?
