I have been programmer for over 30 years and I always have to laugh when somebody comes along and says "that should be easy to do". That is when one of Murphy's Laws usually kicks in
. There is no "easy" in programming.

I am happy to see that automatic control of voiceovers really is a topic
Easy to program or not - I hope that someone at Corel reads this too.
Not always are things left undone because they are too difficult, but sometimes simply because nobody thought of them ...

Re: VideoStudio Pro X6 - Wishlist for future versions.
Well for starters more advanced effects would be nice. The ones Corel have now are very good and works well with the different ways you can use them but, more in general couldn't hurt. Also shape and FX masking would be a good edition to the program as well. Instead of having the FX actually effect the entire footage, you could have it target only specified parts.
I also believe that if you guys re-designed the UI that it might be more beneficial for the entire program and the users. Probably just making it a bit more advance and displaying more innovative tools across the UI instead of just the basics. I know its probably best to keep the program as accessible and simple as possible for user comprehension but, just making slight improvement as such could change everything.
I say stick to what everyone's comfortable with and just fix and add new things that would better the program and users.

This is already possible with every version of VS that I know of. Simply split the video and drop the effect on a segment (or panel)

Don't know if these have been mentioned.
1. Edit undo/redo tracking/manager.
2. Reunite video and audio after splitting.
Thanks, BUG-EYED

VideoStudio already provides means of re-uniting sound and video after splitting.
if you have done some editing to either sound track or video track then it's "Share >> Create video file"
if you have not made any changes at all and simply want to put sound and video back then RIGHT click on the video - click to un-check 'Mute' - then delete the block in the audio track.

Handle with video's made by variable framerate cams like Galaxy, iPod, iPad(?) The problem now is the OOS (Out Of Sync) between audio and video.

A way that when in a project and right click on a video clip, there is an option to "Locate in Library" of clips that are shown with thumbnails above. There is an option to "Locate on Computer" but that just shows where the source file is on the computer, not where it is in the Library.

To be able to capture AVCHD video files from my video camera easily directly into Corel, rather than having first get them onto my computer with the Panasonic software and then importing media files into Corel.

It is hardly a big deal to use HDWriter to transfer your files across. First the Panasonic camera generates a number of "housekeeping" files that you don't need, HDWriter removes these. Second you may have a mix of still (jpeg) files mixed in with your video files, You can tick the appropriate boxes to (a) sort out video from photo and (b) ignore any files you don't want to transfer into VS. This preliminary editing ensures you get the perfect library of files to make into a final video.edrizz wrote:To be able to capture AVCHD video files from my video camera easily directly into Corel, rather than having first get them onto my computer with the Panasonic software and then importing media files into Corel.
The old method has its advantages.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Re: VideoStudio Pro X6 - Wishlist for future versions.
FWIW, I use a Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS20 digital camera extensively for video and it's a piece of cake to use its AVCHD files with Corel VideoStudio. I pop the SD card out of the camera and slip it into the reader on my computer. Using Windows Explorer (which pops up when I put the SD card into the computer's reader), I navigate to the correct folder for the AVCHD files on the SD card. I then highlight all those files and drag them to the "Videos" folder on my computer. (I usually first create a sub-folder specifically for that project, naming it "Zoo" or "Museum" or "Thanksgiving 2012," whatever is appropriate.)edrizz wrote:To be able to capture AVCHD video files from my video camera easily directly into Corel, rather than having first get them onto my computer with the Panasonic software and then importing media files into Corel.
The files then load onto the computer, where you can find them easily to load into VideoStudio's library. Dragging and dropping AVCHD files is the only way you can get the files to a folder where VideoStudio can find them. All other video editing software works exactly the same in this regard.
My Panasonic camera came with software but I have never used it. I process photos with Photoshop and edit videos with VideoStudio, first loading the files on my computer as described above.

Developers!
Please, stop installing Video Studio into the Windows 7 "Documents" folder. It is not a document! Installing it there is confusing and erroneous. Video Studio relates more to videos than it does documents. Even so, installing an application into a "Videos" folder would be wrong. It's an application; it is neither a document NOR a video!

Re: VideoStudio Pro X6 - Wishlist for future versions.
But the application is NOT installed in the Documents folder -- at least not in any of my set-ups of various versions of VS on various computers. Sure, it installs a VS folder and various sub-folders in the Documents library/folder, but these are only for project files, templates and the like. I agree that it is still ludicrous for video-related folders to be in the Documents library/folder, and I have said so on various occasions. But at least for me, the application itself is installed where it should be in Program Files...Please, stop installing Video Studio into the Windows 7 "Documents" folder.

I have Vista so maybe it is different from W7.Old_Friend wrote:Developers!

VS does not install in the Documents folder unless you told it to install there. For me it is installed in the Program folder. What is installed in the Documents folder is the "working folder" which you can of course change if you want to.
Many programs use The Documents folder for the "working folder" not just Corel.

Re: VideoStudio Pro X6 - Wishlist for future versions.
Ken and Canuck, you are both right. Ken reiterated my point, more or less, when he said:
I wish I could alter what I posted originally, or else delete it and start over again! Darn.
What I should have posted was my objection to Corel adding the folder to the Documents folder (by default), instead of adding it where it should be, and that is under the VideoStudio program folder, itself. I say that because I have literally dozens of programs on my system and not one of those programs installs one of its own folders in the Documents folder or any other Library folder! Granted, the Documents folder is the wrong place to store "Video" files; I agree with Ken on that. I just got too frustrated and wrote it incorrectly. I knew beforehand that it wasn't actually where the program was installed; it only "appears" that way, since it is a folder named "Corel VideoStudio Pro" and looks like a program folder. It just bugs me that they did it that way for no logical reason... and, it seems that it cannot be deleted or moved from there, without corrupting the file structure of the program. I tried it, and messed everything up. Had to reinstall.
I'm sorry for the confusion, and I appreciate your replies! If you can/will delete these comments, I'll do it again without the erroneous parts. That way, it'll be just one simple post and less confusing.
But, even project files and template files are not document files, such as (.doc, .txt, etc.). I still think VideoStudio "program-related" files belong in subfolders under the REAL VideoStudio program folder (path). Of course, when users create "video" files (.wmv, .mpg, etc.), those are appropriate to be added into the Windows Video Library folder. Just an example. Same goes for "pictures" (.jpg, .png, .bmp, etc.). Those can be added appropriately into the Windows "Pictures" folder. Windows 7 does that on its own.Sure, it installs a VS folder and various sub-folders in the Documents library/folder, but these are only for project files, templates and the like. I agree that it is still ludicrous for video-related folders to be in the Documents library/folder...
