for X6: fix batch conversion destination file name generatio
Hi,
as explained here: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 72#p256972 X5 (and before I assume) grabs the first '.' in the file path and appends the extension right behind it. Modern Windows allows as many '.' in the path as you like. The paths with '.' s are generated by the DV import feature that comes with Windows 7.
Thanks,
Sander

Re: VideoStudio Pro X6 - Wishlist for future versions.
Got to be honest, I have been sticking with this program since it was Ulead and every time I upgraded thinking "they must have now put all the problems right" they never had, I threaten to abandon it every time. But from version X5 it seems to be now getting up there with some of the big boys and they have started to fix a lot of the problems. It’s not perfect but it is now getting there, I just wish they would now listen to the customers wish’s as in this forum and this would take it leagues ahead of the competitors.
I think Cyberlink may be moving ahead though, with the recent launch of the new Cyberlink’s Power Director 11 and I would like to see VideoStudio Pro X6 competing with some of these features. I keep up to date with both these programs and will be purchasing and upgrade of Power Director 11 to try as it now has some fantastic features.
I also recently tried out Adobe Premier CS6 and even paid the monthly fee to lease it month by month. I got on really well with it and it is a fantastic program but I think the heavy price tag doesn’t warrant what you get for what most people would use it for, this is a program for the big studios and most of us would not use or have the time to use most of it. What you now get in Coral VS X5 should easily satisfy the causal to semi pro users with its ease of use.
I would like:
1. An indicator to show what clips that has been used. I have even seen in other editing programs that it shows how many times a clip has been used.
2. Up to 5 pass encode.
3 When you have the Sound Mixer switched on to show the wave form and adjust the audio, synced video goes out of sync when previewing with it on. Switch it off and its ok again.
4. A better template down load web site that don’t use the shopping cart process that compares to Cyberlink’s Power Director “DirecterZone”. You download user designs and official and they now have over 300,000 templates.

Unless I'm missing something...
1. Greater rendering speed, especially with stacked filters.
2. Show video in the timeline as a film strip (instead of the first image followed be a teal rectangle), with a snap-shot image ever "x" seconds (depending on length and display size, user configurable) to make locating scenes easier/faster.
2. Like other Corel products, greater (finer) control over tools like alt+ctrl+direction arrow(s) to move things around instead of cursor dragging (in FX windows, "cropping," for example).
3. Curves and more advanced color correction (pop-up windows). Again, this is in every Corel product I own (PaintShop Pro X3, X4, AfterShot).
4. LUT support with the ability to direct edit a text file PLUS import/export.
5. Show split audio as a wave form ALWAYS instead of a brick-red rectangle (no need to click Sound Mixer) with a close up (when clicked) of the wave form in the preview panel instead of a speaker/note graphic.
bold = really needed!

Welcome to the forum
with regard to point 2 the timeline can display a film strip - go to 'preferences' (press F6) and about a third down in the dialogue box - next to "Clip display mode" - change the drop down to "Thumbnail only" - OK that and you should now have the filmstrip.

Re: VideoStudio Pro X6 - Wishlist for future versions.
I'd like to see:
* Support for Photoshop layers the same way as for PSP layers.
* Support for MKV containers for input and output. It's an open format so would be nice to see included as it's the main container I use.
* Less fiddly usage of the audio mixer when changing volume within an audio track. There's just not enough pixels to play with at the moment.
* An option to see waveforms when using the timeline without the audio mixer. Audio can provide cues for scene changes but trial and error is the only way at the moment.
* Keyboard shortcuts to nudge clips in the timeline a frame at a time, and a second at time. None are documented and I haven't found any.
* A keyboard modifier to temporarily disable the snapping of clips when dragging them or resizing them. Mostly the snapping is useful but the ability to hold a key to disable it would be useful.
* The ability to lock a clip in place on the timeline so that if you want to replace something before it you don't have to note down when it started, calculate the time difference and then work everything back up to the original transition time.
* An option to remove the Capture / Edit / Share buttons. I really don't need the 1 2 3 help with those, thanks!
* Hierarchical folders in the library.
* The ability to watch a folder for content rather than having to manage individual items, OR a direct mapping of a library folder to the filesystem, which would tie in nicely with wanting hierarchical folders.

X5learner - keyboard short cuts for moving forward or backwards one frame at a time are B for Backward and F for forward
Keyboard shortcuts are documented in the appendix in the User guide

Thanks, I've perused those and had forgotten about B and F for moving in the timeline so thanks for the reminder. With regard to nudging a clip forwards or backwards that doesn't achieve what I was looking for which was an alternative way to get around the snapping behaviour without having to zoom in when precision adjustment is needed. Still of use though!

Re: VideoStudio Pro X6 - Wishlist for future versions.
A couple of things that would help me for the next upgrade:
1. Bigger wave forms in the audio. I'm starting to use external audio.
2. In "share" to burn a DVD, I don't need the pre-formatted menu formats. I use my own jpg photos for the menu background. It would be nice to have the selection of a format that did not include embedded sections or need to hide others, very hard to work with. I end up dragging pre-set sections off the screen to get rid of them. Would be good to have one without the formats we have to hide, so basically just a blank plus the play button and menu selections.
Thanks,
Candy

Hi Candy
DVD Menu
Most of the objects on the menu are required to make the menu run.
Some / most can be hidden, right click to Hide Object.
Create your own template…..
Try using the Text Menu Templates, these have the least decorations.
From the Edit tab Choose to Customise the template adding your own image etc
Then choose the option Add Menu template this will save a copy of the template saved to your favourites library/folder and available from the gallery.
Photo Impact X3 is still available I think from the US site, this program will allow you to create your own templates or modify an existing template.
It is the only program that will do this.

Please bring back flash output. I know mweb is the way forward but there are other reasons for choosing flash - it is very compact and ultimatley it should be our choice how we store our own content.

Re: VideoStudio Pro X6 - Wishlist for future versions.
This sounds very special, but maybe Corel can give it a try:
I like to do voice-overs on my video clips, so as to explain what can be seen etc., so I record the voice-over in an audio file and copy it into the timeline. Of course I want to keep the original sound of the video clips too, so I have to fiddle around with the volume in order to have the background volume high when there is no voice-over and and low when there is.
Years ago I had an analog solution with a compressor where I could input both the voice-over and the original sound, and the original sound was automatically lowered when the was a sound on the voice-over.
I don't think this would be much of a problem to program technically speaking. Question is: Who else would also like that feature?

Re: VideoStudio Pro X6 - Wishlist for future versions.
We would all love such a feature, but I don't think it would be anywhere as simple as you would like. Apart from anything else, who/what would decide what are acceptable levels for voiceover and background audio? Some users might like one level, others another. And what about places where the original audio should take precedence, with the voiceover being not much more than a whisper? And where does background music, as well as voiceover, fit in addition to the original audio of the video???

Re: VideoStudio Pro X6 - Wishlist for future versions.
I think a feature like this could be implemented fairly easily, Ken. The software knows where the beginning and end of the audio clip are. If an audio clip is placed in the voiceover track on the timeline, it can pop up an "audio balance" box that says something like:Ken Berry wrote:We would all love such a feature, but I don't think it would be anywhere as simple as you would like. And where does background music, as well as voiceover, fit in addition to the original audio of the video???
What would you like to do with the audio at this point?
Leave audio as is [checkbox]
Mute audio other than voiceover [checkbox]
Reduce audio in all tracks except voice-over [checkbox]
When this final box is checked, it will turn the following line from grayed-out to active:
Audio reduction level [an amount in dB or a percent from 0 to 100]
That way, the software knows that something may need to be done at from the beginning of a voiceover clip until the end. It should also engineer this so that the audio in the non-voiceover clips fade down to the voiceover and fade back up at the end.
I'm not a programmer, but that doesn't sound hard to do. I do LOTS of voiceovers, and I know how fiddly the current process is. I've gotten better with practice, but something as I describe will take all the fiddling out of it.

Re: VideoStudio Pro X6 - Wishlist for future versions.
I too am not a programmer, and my videos too have lots of voiceovers, so I was genuine in my statement that this would be a highly desirable feature. But if it were so simple to do, why is such a feature not included even in such a high end and expensive program as Adobe Premiere -- up at least to CS4? I don't have CS5 and probably never will... Premiere (and perhaps Elements -- again I don't have that) at least allows you a fairly easy method of using sliders up and down to adjust audio in real time rather than the rubber banding method. I've gotten fairly used to that and proficient at it. I was also interested recently to find that Sony Vegas Movie Studio 12 -- and I assumed the pro Vegas itself -- also seems to rely on rubber banding. Not sure yet about Magix which I have bought and played around with a little, but not involving voiceovers.
