Hello,
I recently installed Corel paintshop pro x4 in my computer and when I go to open it, it takes a long time for it to open.
My mouse keeps spinning. When I first installed it, everything worked fine. I added a couple of plug ins. Could that be the problem?
Should I uninstall paintshop and re-install? If so, would I lose the plug-ins?
Thank you for any help.

Have you installed Service Pack 1?dino444 wrote:Hello,

I find that since installing SP1, X4 takes longer to get going, but it's still a lot faster than X2
Adding plugins shouldn't be a problem.
Try the Shift key trick before you uninstall anything.
If you have altered your Workspace at all, then save it first.
Right-click in the Workspace>Workspace>Save, give it a name and save it.
Then close PSP.
Hold the Shift key and open PSP, when you see a message announcing PSP is reverting to it's default settings, you can let go of the Shift key and see if that has made a difference. Re-load the saved Workspace.
You will have to reset some settings in Preferences>General Program Preferences, if you changed anything in there previously.

You may also want to reset your workspace, this is the shift-key thing that Joelle mentioned above. You can do that by pressing and holding down the SHIFT key then double-click on the PSP icon then when you received the message "DO YOU WAN TO RESTORE PAINTSHOP Pro TO ITS DEFAULT STATE?" just click OK.

I have the exact same problem but as far as I can see it has to do with whether or not you have the photo manager open in Edit mode. It seems that if this is the case, the program recatalogues the available images at every startup.
Obviously it shouldn't be doing this and it is probably yet another bug in this, as yet, very unwell version of PSP.

sometimes by the time it has opened i have forgotten why i opened it.
it's not the I/O the hdd is at low useage. and it's not the cpu. i'm pretty confident it's the licensing stuff.

Re: Corel paintshop pro x4 - long start up
I had the same problem. What I believe originally triggered it was when I was in Manage and was about to add a new folder to browse on the left-hand menu a simple double click or a miss-click, triggered the program to crash, after which on start-up it would just display the ring that shows when it's working, and never completed start-up the 2 times that I left it.
I searched for help, but found none. I figure something was corrupted so I reinstalled without cleaning my personal preferences ect., but that failed to correct the issue. The 2nd time I did a complete uninstall, and after a few days reinstalled it along with the 2 updates, and it has been fine ever since.

Re: Corel paintshop pro x4 - long start up
Ever since SP2 this problem seems to have gone away. X4 now starts up normally without the endless cataloguing of files.
I suspect that previously the catalogue was not saved which was causing the issue each time it was started afresh. Much better now!

Re: Corel paintshop pro x4 - long start up
I've not noticed any difference in the start-up time with SP2. It seems to depend on which FOLDER you've left the Navigation pallet in. Larger folders (with lots of image) will take longer to scan. What about leaving (closing down PSP) with your Navigation with a smaller folder clicked/selected? Does that change anything?Robolovsky wrote:Ever since SP2 this problem seems to have gone away. I've not noticed any difference with sp2 either.
I swear it's protexis that causes the problem.
