MP4 Compression?
I just purchased VideoStudio. My needs are extremely basic, but I've found one issue that I wouldn't have expected, that is, when I go to save a video and choose MP4, H-264 Main, 1280x720, the compression does not allow you to go below 5000 kbps. I think this is a good base line, but to not allow you to go below this figure is frustrating. Is there a way to update the limiter so you can go beneath this without changing anything else?

Re: MP4 Compression?
Why would you want an HD video file of a quality on par with VHS video?

Re: MP4 Compression?
To find a "happy medium" that can be used to stream from the internet. I have a family web site where I put some home movies on it. So that most people are able to view them without any stutter I would like to increase the compression some. Basically, it is a trade-off between file size and video quality.skier-hughes wrote:Why would you want an HD video file of a quality on par with VHS video?

Re: MP4 Compression?
I'm at a complete loss because this is exactly what I'm trying to do. I have used the "Custom" option and used the exact same settings you have above, but when I change compression it results in a window stating: "Compression: This value must be within the range: 5000..20000." I'm not sure why there are two periods in that statement instead of a dash, but that is what is says.lata wrote:What template are you choosing, using the custom option i can set

What Encoder Driver do you have listed under the General Tab when changing these settings? Is it Ulead MPEG-4 vio Driver?
One other question I just thought of. I bought the standard version of VIdeoStudio, you don't happen to be using the Ultimate version are you? I'm wondering if that might be the difference.

Re: MP4 Compression?
Hi
I am using the original version of X4, as far as I know there is no difference in the two versions except for the Service Packs, I believe the Ultimate includes Service Pack 1.
The Ultimate does however provide free software.
Maybe its other software I have installed that affects the Codecs??????
I do know I have “Microsoft MPEG-4 Video Codec V1” as a AVI option that others don’t seem to see.
By the way I have never installed any Codec packs.
I will e-mail you a short video using the Mp4 settings. (one second)
Add this to the beginning of your project.
Then Share Create Video File Same as First Video. should create the Mpeg4

Re: MP4 Compression?
Thanks Trevor. This really helps.
Is there anyone else out there that has the flexibility to lower the compression below 5000 using the profile below? I'm trying to understand whether I'm the exception here or whether Trevor is. Understanding that might lead me in the right direction to a long-term solution.

Re: MP4 Compression?
FWIW, I get the same message as JPW i.e. I too cannot set the bitrate lower than 5000 kbps.

Re: MP4 Compression?
Nor me, and this is on my test machine which has quite a few codecs on.
This will tell you what codedcs you have installed on your machine

Strangely MS says installing WMP10 should mean you install the MS mp4 v1 codec, but I have WMP 11 and no sign of that one

Re: MP4 Compression?
Same here... even if I create my own template the its just at 5000. When I try to check if I can change the encoder, I only "ULEAD MPEG-4 via Driver".

Re: MP4 Compression?
I'll probably call Corel's level 2 support to see what I might be missing here. VideoStudio clearly has the ability to drop the compression because Trevor sent me a small black video made with 1280 x 720 with 2000 Kbps compression. I put that file in the very front of the clip I wanted to compress and when saving the video I chose "Save as first video clip." It compressed the entire video perfectly, but this is the only way I've figured out how to do this. I'm wondering if Trevor might be using a different Encoder than Ulead's. I'll post again if I ever figure out why some people can drop the compression and others can't.

Re: MP4 Compression?
Well, this sort of bums me out, but here is Corel's Level Two Response:
I have reviewed your previous case and tested the settings in Video STudio and using H.264 MAIN and 1280*720 you cannot go lower than 5000 as that is the minimum bit rate required for that profile and resolution to maintain quality.
At this time, none of the PC's we have here with x4 have been able to do this. However, as we just released Video Studio Pro x5 today, I did test it and this version of the software allows you to change to 2000 as the bottom end bit rate for a H.264 MAIN profile at 1280*720.
Feel free to download the trial version of Video Studio Pro x5 and compare it.
What I still can't get past is that obviously some are able to drop the compression using Pro x5 as lata / Trevor reflected. The only thing I can think of that might have allowed him to drop the compression is that he may be using a different encoder. Trevor / lata...can you comment?

Re: MP4 Compression?
Hi JPW
Apologies for any confusion………..
Not a different encoder but a different program, I had a trial Beta X5 installed on my pc.
and had inadvertently use that to create the black sample. In my defence the two workstations do look identical especially when creating the templates. The next time I opened Video Studio I used X4 inserting the black sample worked fine.
Again my apologies…………..
