X4 making color pictures into line drawings

Post by TattooJay »

New to Photoshop X4 and to the forums. I do have a couple newbie questions about so how to's with this program. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Question 1. How would I make a cartoon drawing/picture or a drawing/picture with color, Into a drawing with lines only, no color. I use the gray scale option and that works great, but it still has the shading of the drawing/picture, and I want lines only. So is there some what of a easy way to do this?

Question 2. Once having a line drawing if some of the lines are a little shaky or kinda looking to pixel ish, Is there a simple way to smooth these lines out?

In PSP, you have a few choices. One is to use either the Black and white pencil or black and white sketch script. Once that has run, if there is too much detail, try running the script again. Then adjust (usually increase) contrast to achieve the effect you want.

Another option is to use one or more of the options under Effects > Edge Effects. For more information on these, along with a few other suggestions, you may find this thread helpful: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 39&start=0

I have also used the Kodak Easyshare program, specifically the Coloring Book feature, to accomplish this. More information on that may be found here: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 74#p214674

More tools:
* Inkscape has vectorization support, edges, .. Then export as PNG.

* Vector Magic Desktop Edition - http://vectormagic.com/desktop

Is this the kind of effect that you are looking for?

I created tutorial using PSP X2, but you can still apply the steps using PSP X4. Just follow the steps at http://abielonline.blogspot.com/2009/10 ... photo.html
