Connecting Video Track with Overlay + Audio

Post by JoelMe »

This is a problem I've had a few times...

I am assembling a project with a few video, overlay and audio clips. Everything is timed the way I want, but I decide to add a few seconds to the beginning. I insert the additional clip and all the video clips move over, but all the other clips (overlay and audio) do not move. It takes a long time to adjust everything and get the timing correct again.

Is there anyway to LOCK the audio and overlay clips to their corresponding video, and have them move together when I insert video in the beginning?

Joel

Yes indeed - what you need to do is enable Ripple editing - at the very left end of the top video track is a small icon - like a padlock and 3 little boxes - underneath it is a downward pointing arrow. click on the icon to enable ripple editing then click on the padlocks against the left edge of the tracks you want to lock - OR - click on the down arrow to make choices including "select all" - when the little padlocks are highlighted and closed the objects on that track are locked relative to the top track.

Just adding to what briancee mention, here's a video tutorial about Ripple editing, the video if for VS X3, though you can still apply this if you are using VS X4.

OMG! What good news! I've created a series of 16 complicated shorts, and never knew about this. Lots of extra work! Thank you.
