widescreen rendering in Flash

Post by ct valley views »

My X4 project is done in 16:9 and I can render to MPEG-2 in widescreen but not Flash. I want to publish on Blip.TV and YouTube.
Thanks in advance.

Hi

How are you trying to do this?

Use Make Movie Templates Manager or the Custom option to create the flash template.

Custom-Options Button - General tab- User Define Frame Size to 1280 x 720
Frame rate to match your original video file.
Compression Tab - Data rate max 1000kbps

Disable Non - Square Pixel Rendering

Share Create Video File-Custom-or your flash template
Choose the Options button then uncheck Non - Square Pixel Rendering.
Save

If you are using Titles in your project view the Flash file to make sure they are still in position.
If they move, pre render your project to a single video file, then convert to Flash.

After completing the project as a "VSP",in the "share" step, the flash conversions are only 4:3.

Hi Bill

The standard default templates available from Share Create Video File are indeed 4:3.

You have to use the Custom option, or use Make Movie Templates Manager to create your own template to 16:9

Are you doing this?

The aspect ratio button is greyed out-no changes can be made.
I have not tried the movie templates manager.

I'm just a beginner at this. I did set the size to 1280 x 720 - the aspect ratio is still grayed out at 4:3.

Hi

Flash video does not use a fixed aspect ratio as such, the flash frame can be any shape.
The shape depends on the pixel dimensions of the frame.
The 4:3 choice is greyed out because it is not used, it is not required

1280 x 720 is a ratio of 16:9
This size is the standard that YouTube recommends for widescreen video.

Have you tried rendering the project to create the flash video.
You will have to use one of your media players to play the flash file.

Using Make Movie Templates Manager will create a template always available so you will not have to input the data again.

Well I'll be dipped in pickle juice. I use VS x4 to make Flash videos all the time and I've tried a few resolutions... but never 1280 x 720. I've tried 720 x 480 and a couple other resolutions that *should* be 16:9, but VideoStudio always screwed up the aspect ratio of the render. However, I just followed your instructions and set it to 1280 x 720, and the render was perfect. (Like the other guys, the aspect ratio selection is set to 4:3 and grayed out so that it can't be changed.)

Geez... I've been trying to get that right for more than a year and just assumed that VS couldn't do it. Thanks for the correct procedure!
