Hi,
in b5 one could move pictures in the catalog folder when importing them. Does this feature exist in ASP? I couldn't find it.
if i expand my catalog it looks like this
ASP Catalog
|--home
|--|-- picture
|--|-- |-- subfolders with pictures..
|--|-- |-- subfolders with pictures..
|--|-- |-- subfolders with pictures..
why does it show home and pictures if there are no pictures in any other folder than picture?
bye
move pictures to Catalog

Re: move pictures to Catalog
This feature is gone.
Now import is via reference only.

Re: move pictures to Catalog
There are two issues here...
1: Import only by reference.
This is actually good. Moving files into an "opaque" catalog is not really a good idea on the long run.
Having a decent file system structure and referencing the fies is a much saner approach (used by all professional DAM solutions).
2: No overlay structure
Currently the catalog mimics the file system structure, which is a good base, but a virtual structure on top would often be useful. It could be implemented with hierarchal keywords, but as long as they share the same name space as regular keywords, this is bound to become messy.
cheers

Re: move pictures to Catalog
hmm i understand that references are better but the idea with hierachical keywords is not usable!
Will there be a "virtual structure on top" in future versions?

Only as long as they are mixed up in regular keywords....I3ilbo wrote:hmm i understand that references are better but the idea with hierachical keywords is not usable!
Once they are separate, this is pretty much perfect.
Been using it for years in iMatch.
I hope so. The more people request it the bigger the changes are, use the Monkey. Will there be a "virtual structure on top" in future versions?
