I am running XP SP2, Pent IV 2.4, radeon 9200 card, 1 gig RAM. I have been using a 40 gig hard drive and have just added another 60 gig hard drive. I use VS8 and work only with MPEGs as I have a Sony DVD cam.
Now that I have added the second larger hard drive I have migrated "My Documents" to that drive which is "E." The original hard drive, "C," has the op system and program files on it including VS8..
I would like a little advice on how to configure VS8 to fully use my new real estate as far as working folder, temp preview folder and output folder goes.
Thanks in advance.
Some tips on configuration please

Working Folder
File / Preferences / Working Folder.
You can choose any location you wish on your pc.
I make a seperate folder for different projects.
Preview Folder.
This is chosen from File / Preferences /preview tab.
It is normally default is C: drive
I allocate another drive and uncheck C
Output folder??????? Dont understand ??
As far as i am concerned the output floder is the working folder
Hope this Helps

Trevor, thanks for answering. I guess my post was a little vague upon reflection! I know how to move everything and set it up. What I really wanted to know was what would be the most efficient postioning of each of the folders on a two hard drive setup. If the program is on C and the working folder is on E where would the best place for the preview folder to go.
By output folder I mean where is the best (fastest) place to render a final file to? Eg. The original raw video files are on E, so when I render should I render back to a folder on E or would it be more efficient to render to a folder on C?
Am I making sense?

A standard computer setup for video uses 2 harddisks or more.
Also 1 gig of ram is suggested for video editing.
The first hard disk for the operating system and programs (VideoStudio).
The second harddisk for data (video/audio etc).
Under "Preferences" uncheck the default setting and assign a
directory on the new 2nd (physical) harddisk.
(I created and use a directory on my 2nd harddisk called VS9_Preview).
Make sure to manually assign the new preview directory on the last tab
under "Preferences" (F6).
Set the "Working Folder" also to the 2nd harddisk drive (Preferences first tab).
After you do this, create a project under the working folder(2nd harddisk) and
look at the directories that VS has created under that main directory
to work with. That will give you a better idea how things work.
Outputting a video file is usually also to the 2nd harddisk (usually is).
Hope this helps,
MD
