Insert into selection without distortion

Post by cipherwar »

Hello,

i want to copy an part of image A into an selection of picture B.

Using the command " Insert into selection" works, but i get a distortion of image A. The relation of heigth/width is changed by PSP, so that image A fits into the selection, but this is not what I need. I would prefer the parts of image A that don't fit into the selection being cropped.

Can anyone please tell me how to do that?

Thank you. :P

Paste Into Selection is meant to match the image to the selection size so that was to be expected. And there is no one click option that I know of.

The easiest way is to paste image A as it's own layer on Image B. Move the image over the selection. Invert the selection, and hit "Delete" on the keyboard. That will effectively cut off any area that wasn't inside the original selection. Invert again to keep the selection.

You could also write, or get someone to write, a script that did this for you so that it's actually only one step. Relatively easy if I remember the required commands properly. And a script offers you the ability to bind it to a menu and add a shortcut key to make it easy to access.

thank you, but i don't get it working.

I now pasted it as its own layer, and then remove everything overlapping using the background mover tool. But that's not really what i was expecting PSP offering for such kind of tasks.

do you know if other imaging programs support such kind of tool i need?

I don't off-hand, no. It's not a big enough deal to worry about. Again if the steps are too much (which honestly, that's silly) I can just make a script to handle it in one quick go.

Everyone has different needs and expects different things PSP may not have the one click option built-in but it has all of the versatility you need to get it done properly. So I've never felt the need to look around. Sorry.

Well, one problem on PSP is, that there's so less books on it - in comparison to gimp, photoshop....and the userguide is really only a quick guide for such a mighty tool.

thank you for your offer.
