Trying to install NewBlue FX effects

Post by phnxrsngbr »

Hi and thanks for any help you can give. I've tried to contact, unsuccessfully, support at NBFX.

I've previously paid for 3D Explosions from NewBlue and just today activated and installed the effects. They don't, however, show up in my FX file. I don't know why, and need to use them. Can anyone tell me how to get them to appear and be usable in VSX4? Do I have to find them somewhere and manually put them in the program file? After paying over $100 I'd think NB would have installed them where they need to be.

Thanks!

I bought the New Blue Video Essentials packages some time ago, though not the Explosions. However, I seem to recall that all of mine first appeared only in earlier versions of VS I had installed on my computer alongside X4 (namely X2 and X3). The installation procedure of the NB effects specified where they would be installed, but also allowed you to browse to another program, and this is how I installed them to my X4 set-up. In other words, at that point I browsed to the Corel X4 directory in my Program Files, and selected the vfx_plug sub-directory as the target.

I believe, though, that if you have an earlier version of VS on your computer and the NB effects have been installed there (in the vft_plug -- though you should also look at the vfx_plug folder, depending on the exact nature of the NB effects), then you simply copy all the files that start with 'NB' and paste them to the relevant folder in X4.

Just like what Ken, if you have the old VSP installed that the plugin may have been installed there... which is similar to the ProDAD Mercalli 2.0 missing in the FX library of VideoStudio Pro X4.

You can just apply the same steps provided on the KB changing Mercalli for the NewBlueFX. You can access the KB here http://corel.force.com/index/articles/e ... 4-Ultimate

Good morning, and thanks for your replies!

I've tried moving all of the effects to VSx4 and it hasn't worked. When I moved the effects it took them out of VS2 and pasted them into VS4. They're there, they just won't show up or work. I'm at a loss, need to use them, and can't figure out a way to get them to work. I tried installing to the directory Ken suggested, and that didn't work either.

Do I need to uninstall them, or uninstall VS2? I don't want to do that as since Corel has not made their software backwards compatible (which I find hard to believe, actually, and is why I won't buy V5 unless it is) and I won't be able to open up old projects if I do.

Thanks!

Hi

I recall some discussions regarding New Blue effects and the library.
Some users found that installing the effects created a new library page whilst others only saw the effects when viewing the All category.
-------------------------------
Backward compatibility, if you are referring to opening a VS X4 Project File (VSP) in Video Studio 12 (X2) then yes this is possible.

First SaveAs the project using X4, give it a new name, from the save window choose the Save as Type to be X2

Generally backward compatibility works for the previous 2 versions

Hi Lata,

Thanks for your help!

I've viewed the entire library, and the NB library in VS4 while the program is running, and the effects aren't there anywhere. They are, however, in the correct Vs4 folder. I've reinstalled them and they are working fine in VS2. Just not VS4. Nothing I've tried has worked, including the link the other commenter gave me.

I probably should have said forward compatible as I would like to open VS2 and VS3 projects in VS4 and am unable to. That's the only reason I have VS2 and VS3 still taking up space on my computer.

Hi

Opening project from older versions to newer versions has always been possible.

You should have no problems in doing that, the only issue is opening in older versions.

How are you trying to open the VSP.
Do Not double click the file from Windows Explorer, the file associations are not clever enough to select a particular version.

To open a project….Open Video Studio, File Open Project, browse the hard drive for your Project File.
One created using X2 will open in X4

Whether not having same NB filters is an issue i do not know.

Unfortunately, my VS4 will not open anything from earlier versions. My notification is that the file is "already in use." I get it every time and have tried it on every earlier project as I initially feared my projects had somehow become corrupted.

I think I asked about this awhile back, and someone else said the same thing, that they couldn't open their earlier projects. You're lucky you can open them :)

Actually, on reviewing what I asked awhile back, everyone said exactly what you did, that I should be able to run the older version projects on VS4. Thanks for your help, it got me checking my old posts!

Hi

I am willing to look at your project files, not sure if i will be able to do anything, but maybe worth a luck,

I have send you an e-mail asking you to send a VSP file?

By the way have you always used Windows 7 or earlier OP's showing same problem?
