Copyrights to Corel Music Clips?
I am making training videos for a large corporation, and I would like to be able to use the music clips that come with VS ProX4.
Their legal team has asked me for documentation proving that I have permission to use them or that they are public domain.
Does anybody know how such documentation can be obtained from Corel?

Re: Copyrights to Corel Music Clips?
Although I don't have the answer to your question, I can tell you that there are several firms on the Internet offering no-charge, royalty-free production music, whether shipped to you on DVD or by download. So, if your employer's legal team vetos the use of the VS Pro X4 tunes, you have several easy alternatives. I think you'll be surprised how good the free music sounds.
As this forum has a zero-spam policy, I can't give you specific links here, but just use Google (or your preferred search engine) to search for "free production music" and take a look at the results. But, be leery of sites that ask you to pay for a membership before downloading the free music.
(A Reston Virginia firm that is a favorite of mine "gives away" music, stock footage, and special effects if you pay an actual charge of less than $9 a disc for S&H. The discs take a couple of weeks to arrive, but the music is pretty impressive. Of course, always sample their collection at their web site before ordering.)
Good luck!
Bob

Re: Copyrights to Corel Music Clips?
GREAT!
Thanks, Bob.
All I need is music that I can PROVE I have the rights to use.
I don't know if our purchase of Corel can be considered documentation or proof that they have given us permission to use the music clips they provide as part of the application.

While we certainly do not allow outright spam we have no objection to a long term established user giving pointers to web sites they have used in connection with the software discussed on these forums and been satisfied with - I personally get all my royalty free music from :- http://www.akmmusic.co.uk/ - royalty free does not of course mean financially free and you do have to pay but you can download individual tracks or a whole CD which comes complete with a certificate to say you can use them in your video.
further in the EULA which you can read here :- http://www.corel.com/corel/pages/index.jsp?pgid=800340 is a paragraph right at the end which starts as follows - I dont know if it will satisfy your client - - -

Re: Copyrights to Corel Music Clips?
I thank BrianCee for allowing me to share the link of one firm that I have used successfully for obtaining royalty-free (and practically free-of-charge) production music for my VS productions:
http://www.freestockmusic.com/
The site is one of many operated by "FootageFirm.com", the outfit in Reston, Virginia which also gives away footage and special cinematic effects on DVD. You can read their entire license agreement at the following
http://www.freestockmusic.com/license-agreement/
They say, in part:
You may use the Stock Files for nearly any project, including feature films, broadcast, commercial, industrial, and educational video, print projects, multimedia, games, and the internet, as long as the Stock Files have been incorporated into any work with substantial value added by you. Thus, you could incorporate Stock Files into video productions, promotional materials, packaging, web page design, broadcast, products for sale, electronic and print publication, comps, and layouts.
But don't cut your options short. Also check out the other firms that will appear when you do a web search for "free production music."

Re: Copyrights to Corel Music Clips?
If you are referring to the music clips that you can use via the SMARTSOUNDS QUICKTRACKS, then you can refer them to http://www.smartsound.com/products/licenseinfo.html and if the stock audio of VS then just refer them to EULA at http://www.corel.com/corel/pages/index. ... ageCode=en

Re: Copyrights to Corel Music Clips?
Bob,
I have to say that freestockmusic is the best site I've visited so far.
Really free music, and a EULA that I can use to prove I have the rights to use it.

Re: Copyrights to Corel Music Clips?
Abiel,
If I remember right when we discussed this a year or so ago, I thought the outcome was that you could use it "not for profit", so this would mean that the OP couldn't use the stock VS music.
Is my memory wrong?

I read the EULA. The section to which you are referring concerns use of VC-1.skier-hughes wrote:Abiel,

For the clips, fonts, etc, go to the last section near the bottom, with the following subtitle.
ADDITIONAL TERMS APPLICABLE TO USERS OF CLIPART, STOCK PHOTO IMAGES, VIDEO CONTENT, AUDIO CLIPS, FONTS AND SAMPLE CONTENT:
The show stopper for me is the part that requires publishing a copyright notice. My customer forbids the use of copyright notices in its videos.
They provided a list of web sites where I could purchase music without the requirement to publish the copyright, but it's a bit pricey.
I'll have to have a close look at the EULA for freestockmusic. If they don't have a requirement to publish their copyright, then I can use them.
Alternatively, I can break out the midi sequencer and the guitar and invent a few tunes meself. I already have a couple of originals I can use.
