scroll timeline

Can somebody explain what the function is of the small rectangle (left under in the VSX4 screen) which, when hit shows "Automatically Scroll Timeline" . To me , it doesn't do anything.

You need to be playing back video. Clicking that icon toggles scrolling on and off. When off, the timeline cursor just keeps on going out of site without the next page of timeline coming into view. It can improve performance when turned off.

As we play the project the timelines continuously refresh bringing the frames into view, this can cause some playback problems especially with a slower pc,

as Kingston says can improve playback performance when turned off, the curser coming into view when playback is stopped.
