I did look on the forum but cannot find any reference to my bug - which is strange.
When I move the slider VS PRO X 4 gets an unexpected error and closes.
Digging around I found the Ultimate version and tried the trial download. It worked for a while and then the application terminated again.
I reloaded X4 Pro and installed SP 1 & 2
I find confusing that the X4 Pro Build number without either SP 1 & 2 is:14.0.0.342
The Build after Sp1 is: 14.1.0.107
The Build after Sp2 is: 14.2.0.23
Then this ULTIMATE version has a build of 14.1.0.150? Looks like the same family and from the same department.
The GUI is also the same no mention of Ultimate - and the Sp's think it is another pgm?
What does the Ultimate do that the Pro X4 does NOT?
Thanks
Mike

Re: Multi-Trim Fast Forward/Fast Rewind Slider
Hi Mike
What does the Ultimate do that the Pro X4 does NOT?
Nothing as far as I know...............
I have the original X4 version, not the “Ultimate”
There is no difference with the two programs except that the Ultimate has “VideoStudio Pro X4 Service Pack 1” included,(afaik) therefore only needs VideoStudio® Pro X4 Service Pack 2
However the Ultimate does provide additional software packages:-
proDAD Mercalli SE
Boris Graffiti 5.3
Multi Trim
I must admit to not using this editing feature, I use the scissors on the main timelines to cut and delete the frames.
I have just tried Multi Trim without problems, I was using standard DVD Mpeg2 type video.
Can you give details of your video file, right click the file from the main timelines and select properties, what are they?

Re: Multi-Trim Fast Forward/Fast Rewind Slider
Thanks for the interesting information.
The file properties are Quick Time Movie Files - 1920 x 1080
SInce you asked I loaded another file (HDMV) and lo and behold it works fine.
Must be the film studios use another editor as they use the 5D for making movies when scenes need a really small camera with a really high quality output.
In case the support people see this I added:
My files come either from a Panasonic video-cam with a built-in 120GB disk the output is AVCHD (M2t - HDV) wprks just fine.
or a Canon 7D that has the same video system as the 5D II and the output is MOV files using AVC/H.264 compression. These files caused the problem.
Thanks for the help - silly of me not to have thought of that.
Would you mind adding a few tips on how you edit and create high quality DVD's. I'll start using the scissors for a start.
Thanks again.

Re: Multi-Trim Fast Forward/Fast Rewind Slider
Hi Mike
I have the Canon 7D
The canon 7D video file as you rightly say uses Mov H264, if you view the video properties using X4, right click the clip and select properties. Notice the compression details are empty. I am assuming that VS cannot read the file correctly.
Mov H264, I do not know how to create this type other than from the camera, certainly VS is unable to do this.
Maybe purchasing the full Quick Time converter is capable.
Just to confirm yes the Multi Trim does crash when using the Canon 7D video files, interestingly without error messages, my program simply disappeared.
The last time I experienced this was VS 10 and associated with Adobe Acrobat Reader updates, don’t ask?

Editing and making quality video files, mike what are you intending to make, standard DVD, HD bluray or video for the internet?

Re: Multi-Trim Fast Forward/Fast Rewind Slider
Trevor thanks,
I need to make files to distribute on a DVD (I play badminton and everyone wants to be a star).
There is also the need to play HD video onto a TV - will have to find a way to feed the files to a BR player that I'l get this week.
Spent a few weeks in India and came back with 22GB of stills and lots of video.
I made two Video files to see the difference in quality:
1. DVD Video (16:9)
2. AVCHD (1920x1080P)
Seems the AVCHD looks better - Ill then put it on a DVD (any words of wisdom? I sometimes change the Video data rate to get it onto a DVD)
I will get a blu-ray player so that means feeding the file into the player or getting a BR writer - the medium is a bit steep over here.
Whatever VS shortcoming are it is a lot smarter than PowerDirector and nicer to use.
Thanks again for the interesting post.
Kind Regards
Mike

Re: Multi-Trim Fast Forward/Fast Rewind Slider
Hi Mike
I do not use HD as yet, still to upgrade the camera and player + HD burner.
Some things to consider…….
Playback of HD, create a BluRay or Avchd folder rather than burning to disc.
Save the HD folder to memory stick, uses this to playback the video on the BluRay player via USB.
I think Ken Berry, hopefully Ken will comment regarding his work flow.
Creating a Standard DVD.
The discs use Mpeg2 type files, you use Pal and as such 25 fps, you should set the camera to record to 25 fps.
What settings do you use to record the video?
The bit rate (data Rate), use 8000kbps will allow for 60 minutes per disc.
Video data rate—reducing this to say 6000kbps will allow for 90 minutes per disc.
Typical settings :-
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
Upper Field First or Frame Based ?????? Same as Canon video
(DVD-PAL), 16:9
Video data rate: 8000 kbps
Audio data rate: 256 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)
Use Settings Make Movie Templates Manager to create your own template.
India, very nice, we had three weeks over there last year, fantastic time……….
