Clone and Tone brush

Post by Kazan »

I am testing the various PaintShop features. So far I found the Clone and Tan brushes not working. I assume that these brushes should be working. I loaded PaintShop thru Internet. Is it possible that something happened during loading and by, bad luck, created these problems. Is anyone has experience similar problems when downloading PaintShop. Except for reloading the product is ther anything I can try. I am a PhotoPaint user and I am familiar with the working of the Clone Brush, I followed the process as described in the Help and manual without success

I have not had this problem, no. And I only own the downloaded version. There is no major bug that we are aware of with the clone brush. But there are a few possibilities we can look at.

Well, assuming the default workspace has not been damaged you could attempt to reset the workspace. One of PSP's biggest failings is that at any time the workspace file can become corrupted and it actually causes tools to misbehave or not function at all.

So close PSP.

Then hold the Shift key while opening PSP from the desktop. It should ask if you want to reset the workspace. Say yes and it should load up like it did when you first installed the program.

If the clone tool still doesn't work do you mind telling us in what way it doesn't work? Does it just not draw at all, does it not let you set a source point? Is it drawing a straight color and not actually cloning? Are you working on a special image with multiple layers? Are you working with selections?

That sort of thing.

First I am using the french version, this shall not affect the functioning of these brushes. The picture is a jpeg format, no selection, no layer, no changes. Here is what happen: I right click the area I want to duplicate (an X appears in a circle, brush size), then I move the mouse to another area, the brush symbol is a circle with a brush and a stamping tool,I left click to duplicate, the circle remains steady, the brush symbol moves within and outside the symbol.

Kazan:

I have not had problems with clone. I'm not sure I understand your description of the problem.

What is the size of the circle within which the X, brush and stamp appear? What is the size of your brush as shown in the tools (number in window)? Increase the size of the brush - still the same effect? The only thing I can think of from your description is that your "brush" is far too small.

Say you right click to create your source then move the mouse to the left. Assuming you selected a circle for your tool, you should now have two circles, source and copy. When you left click, do both circles move together? I did not understand:
the circle remains steady, the brush symbol moves within and outside the symbol.

Size of the brush: 171, same problem with all brush sizes, Yes I have 2 circles, Both circles move together: NO. The source circle moves when I move the brush but the target circle remains steady. Do you know of a Corel video showing the use of that brush?

Thanks Levifunction. I went to the site and found a video on the clone tool. I definitely have a problem: The clone brush does not move, as such it cannot duplicate the source. I am going to remove PSP4 and reload from the same version I have saved on my system. If it does not work I will reload from the corel site with antivirus deasable.
If that does not work I will purchase a disk copy from Corel.
I let you know after I will be thru these reloadings
