PaintShop Pro X4 fonts

Post by aleoutas »

I have been using PaintShop Pro X2 and afetr few years I've decided to buy the newest version X4.
What is disapponted for me-ugly fonts used by new X4 version.
In X2 fonts have been clean and fashionable but now they look definitely too thick and not nice.
Is any way to change such fonts?

If both the PSP X3 and PSP X4 are installed on the same computer, then both program should be using the same sets of fonts, since the fonts you see on the program will depend on the fonts that are installed on your Windows OS. If they are installed on separate program, then you can copy the fonts from the computer where PSP X3 is installed then transfer it the computer where PSP X4 is installed.

Thanx for the answer :)
Anyway I am not sure we are talking about the same.
I have described fonts which are used by the program for its own purposes not for user's graphics etc.
Included attachment shows what I'm talking about.
It shows also clearer fonts used in X2 version.

As far as I can see, the fonts in both photos are identical, and my eyes are pretty good. I am wondering if you would think differently if you adjusted the background colour (View > Workspace Color) to a lighter one and saw those letters in black instead of white.

I believe like most programs PSP uses the default font set in Windows to draw its menus and everything. As a result on my system X2 and X4 both use Segoe UI as the font on the UI. I can prove this by doing an overlay comparison of both UIs. Also if I go into my Window Color and Appearance control panel and mess with the menu text the update effects both X2 and X4 in exactly the same way.

Yes, you are right. Darker background makes an optical feeling fonts are not the same.
Sorry and thanx for the explanation.

No those fonts in the two screenshots are completely different from an aliasing perspective. The first screenshot shows aliased and the second (x4) shows cleartype or font smoothing going on. It is possible that the person that though they were the same already had font smoothing turned on.

I have font smoothing/cleartype turned completely off on my XP, yet the Paintshop prox X4 menus insist on using a font that only renders with cleartype. Is there a setting to change the Paintshop pro x4 menus to something like Tahoma, which can render in Aliased mode? Or at the very least can somebody tell me what fonts Paintshop is trying to use, so that I can remove them and see if it default to something more reasonable? They look really blurry on my monitor. Btw some of the popups and dialogues use different fonts which obey the XP settings -- looks like it is just the main menu fonts.

Thanks.
