PSP X won't run on Win7 - Visual C++ runtime error
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times, all patches applied and running in WinXP compatibility mode but I just cannot get PSP version X to run on this machine.

PSP X is not compatible with Windows 7, which is why you cannot use the program. You may want to try PSP X4 which is fully compatible with Windows 7 and yes PSP 8 may be running but that does not guarantee that other version like PSP 9 or PSP x (10) will run on Windows 7 as well.

Re: PSP X won't run on Win7 - Visual C++ runtime error
I googled Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error!, and the resulting discussions reported that reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86) was a fix. Look for it at Microsoft's site.
I had PSP X running on Vista and then Win 7 32 bit (which may be the rub if you're now going with 64 bit). If you've gone from Windows XP to Win7 you'll want to look up and do how to:
Turn off UAC
Turn off Windows Firewall
Turn off all security software
Turn off DEP
Try installing PSP, then turning the things on you'll want running like your security stuff.

Re: PSP X won't run on Win7 - Visual C++ runtime error
I have 64-bit Windows 7 and I've been running PSP X on it. When I first start the program, it changes my desktop display because it informs me that it's not compatible with my default setting, but nothing else is affected, and it runs just fine afterwards. Other programs that I have open at the same time also run fine. I don't remember having to do anything or tweak anything in my system to get it to run, but I do have a version of Microsoft Visual Studio involved, so maybe I already had all of the runtime libraries needed.

Re: PSP X won't run on Win7 - Visual C++ runtime error
PSP X runs just fine on 64-bit Windows 7 and doesn't change the desktop them if you apply the 10.10 patch that you should be able to find on the Corel web site, although it may be difficult. PSP X runs better than X3 and X4 combined, it's just not supported by Corel any more. And PSP 9 also works on 64-bit Windows 7.

OK, thanks for the responses.
"PSP X is not compatible with Windows 7, which is why you cannot use the program"
It seems that there is plenty of evidence of many people running it without issue on Win7, and I had it running for a short time.
"You may want to try PSP X4 which is fully compatible with Windows 7"
I have actually tried every version since X, and I don't care for any of them. In fact I find them to be very nearly unuseable. I have purchased and installed X4 (against my better judgement) but it does not work out for me. That's a subject for another day, another post.
"Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86) was a fix."
I have tried downloading and installing this package, but I keep getting a message that it needs to be updated.
..*** fine "if you apply the 10.10 patch "
I have 3 patch files that I saved from my original install of X, but I am not sure what the version numbers are. I am pretty sure that the 3 of them are all the patches that were ever released for X and I have applied them all, one at a time in order:
EN_Patch.exe 9,269 KB
PaintShopPro1002_EN_Patch.exe 20,970 KB
PaintShopPro1003_EN_Patch.exe 28,985 KB
"you may want to update your specs in the User Control Panel for better answers for any future posts..."
Yes, I'll need to do that. I am running Win7 on a brand new 3.0 GHz Quad-Core Dell

Re: PSP X won't run on Win7 - Visual C++ runtime error
This is where I am at: I have installed the 2008 C++ redist. package, but as soon as it finishes it says that it is strongly advised to install updates and service packs. Windows update doesn't find anything to update, and a search of MS comes up with a lot of choices that I haven't quite sorted out yet.

I have of course completely uninstalled X, performed a registry clean, etc. I turned off UAC, firewall, A/V software, etc. and attempted to reinstall X, and the first thing it does when I click on the setup file is give me a popup:
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Setup
Maintenance Mode
Select one of the following options:
Repair
Uninstall
Tried repairing, and nothing happens or changes. If I uninstall, then I am right back where I started?
I REALLY need to get PSP X running on this machine. V8 doesn't have the features I need and X4 is just not doing it for me. I spent 6 hours trying to do what I need done with X4 yesterday and gave up. I could have done it in about 30 minutes on X if it were working for me.

Re: PSP X won't run on Win7 - Visual C++ runtime error
Apparently Corel has removed the link for the 10.10 patch from their web site, as far as I know it only eliminated the turning on and off of the Aero interface used by Window Vista and Windows 7. PSP X still works without the patch.boznian2 wrote:OK, thanks for the responses.

SOLVED PSP X won't run on Win7 - Visual C++ runtime error
Aaahh HAHH
It would seem that it never was an issue with Visual C++ at all
There is some problem with my saved workspace from WinXP. I can start and run PSP X all day using the default workspace or any modified workspace. When I load any saved workspace from my previous install on XP, (which was always one fo the first things I did after installing) I can use X all day, editing, saving whatever - but then as soon as I close it and try to reopen (using the saved workspace of course) BANG - Visual C++ error. When the light finally went off for me, I just reopened X holding down the shift key and it asked if I wanted to reset to defaults, YES, opened with no problem. So now I am customizing (slowly) to try and recreate my perfect, previous X workspace.
Thanks for all the input...
