[plugin] Nuance Colour Grading tool - BUG in version 1.0.9?

Post by ChrisC »

Since version 1.0.9 (full version) ASP crashes every time I hit the reset button of Nuance!?
Is there a log or something I can provide to help finding the problem?

P.S. the more I use Nuance the more I not only find it useful but also fun to toy with - thanks for this plugin

one question and one feature request...

Question:

Is is correct that the batch color I choose always alters the color region of the original image?
What I mean is:
If I have changed the colors using Nuance and some previous blues got green and then try to change the green batch -> only the original green regions are effected (not the ones I have turned to green using nuance)?

Feature Request:
Would it be possible to reset the values via double click?

thanks

Nuance 1.0.10 is now available from http://nexi.com/nuance and fixes the crashing problem when hitting Reset on Windows 7 clients. I think this is the last known bug. Please let me know if there are any other bugs.

Chris: All of the alterations happen simultaneously. So if you change blue->green and change green->yellow, only original greens will be yellow. Of course there will be some bluish-greens that are yellowish because Nuance must blend the effects so there is no hard line between them.

About the feature request: Double-clicking on the slider labels should reset them to zero. Or is there another place you'd like to double-click?

THANKS, reset now works without crashing ASP

regarding the double-click reset:
  • *) slider label -> works fine
*) slider knob -> no reset - but would be nice, because if you drag it and don't like the result
this would be a fast way to reset it
*) colour patch button -> a new idea: a double click could reset all values from this patch
Also thanks for the quick bugfix. :D

I was using 1.0.9 this weekend on my Win7 64-bit with no troubles.

I never really got what the old Brenda plugin did so didn't use it much. I grabbed Nuance Pro partly to support Sean, and partly because the examples in this thread and the new web page showed the potential power. I still have only scratched the surface, but I'm starting to get how to use the plugin. It really helped with a number of images that ASP was having trouble with. It was able to tone down some slightly overexposed faces where the more typical ASP adjustments just made a nasty yellow splotch.

If you have any suggestions on how to better convey Nuance's utility I'd love to hear them. I find it terribly difficult to explain how it works and what it's for because it is so non-obvious when it is working properly.

I think it was probably more on my end with not getting it. I read your original post here and then read the plugin page on your site a couple of times. It started to make sense to me, then playing with the plugin some more I had my aha moment. It really helped to pick a color (in my case I picked 14: White) and make a radical change; then toggle the patch palette & the overall plugin on & off a couple of times. Now I see what the effects are; this can be a very subtle tool so I think it takes a while with experimenting to get it. I know I've only just scratched the surface of what it can do since I was only using the Light slider to try to help recover some highlights without the nasty artifacts the stock ASP controls produce.

After using Nuance very often the last days I really miss the reset by double-clicking the 'knob'. This is a normal behaviour in all other ASP controls and very handy.

Any chance you could add it?

Thanks

[I wonder how it was removed in the first place, not that I'd want to.]

What you can do is double click on the name of the slider, e.g. Colour, Tint, Light, etc which will also reset the associated slider.
