"This PSD file contains unsupported features."
Anybody know of a (cheap) program which has full PSD support? (ie not Photoshop)

Re: "This PSD file contains unsupported features."
I don't use PSD files very often but from what I've seen this error is usually rather minor stuff. Download a template at the text isn't editable and the mask layers aren't there. So I've never searched for even more software to avoid having to say "I use two softwares to avoid having to use one".

I don't really care what you want to say. I don't have a problem using 50 programs, and PS is way too expensive.

Fair enough. But I suspect that Adobe may make the only "does it all with all PSD file features" programs. What feature exactly are you missing?Auser wrote:I don't really care what you want to say. I don't have a problem using 50 programs, and PS is way too expensive.

Re: "This PSD file contains unsupported features."
Well you shouldn't need 50 programs but no one should be afraid to use multiple programs. A pipeline is used even in conjunction with Photoshop. So it's not using two to avoid 1 it's using two to get the best result.
However, the only program that "fully" supports Photoshop document files is Photoshop. Everything else will not support one feature or another or render the document incorrectly or flatten the whole thing into a single layer.
That being said I don't know of any software that properly supports most of the Photoshop Document Format. If you find one let me know I would love to see it but a cursory search and a quick look through all of my current software suggests that it's unlikely anything will.

I don't really know - i was sent a psd and when trying to load it i get the message, and it looks odd. I suspect it might be something related to gradients.df wrote:Fair enough. However, and strangely enough, the freeware picture viewer IrfanView (http://www.irfanview.net/) displays the image correctly. And it can then save it out in PNG or one of the many other formats it supports - of course its flattened by then, but still.

Yeah, you are probably right. Oh well.LeviFiction wrote: However, the only program that "fully" supports Photoshop document files is Photoshop. Everything else will not support one feature or another or render the document incorrectly or flatten the whole thing into a single layer.

Well, PSE 10 will likely go on fire sale soon at local retailers if that's of any help.

PSE 10 http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index ... &loc=en_us
I tried and it cant open all features of PS, and even if it reads, it cant edit them all. **As it is expected behavior.**
