Very brief question-video files

Post by tonyjer »

Hi Everyone

I have an 80GB second HDD which is reserved for video editing so I don't have any major probs with space.

However is it possible to delete the capture files AFTER CREATING THE NECESSARY VIDEO FILE(S)?

The rec workflow relies upon the video files to in the burn routine but can you safely delete the capture files without compromising the mpeg files?

(I always caoture in DV type 1)

Many thanks for listening.

when you create the mpeg videos, they are completely standalone videos -- they don't rely on info from your dv .avi's.

So, you could delete the dv .avi's, but make sure it's what you want before deleting them...

You might want to keep them for your editing project, or archiving, or something...

If you still have the tapes that the AVI files were captured from, the only downside to deleting the capture files is the time it would take to re-capture them.

I keep my A/V drive fairly clean, but I don't delete files until the DVD or CD (and a backup) is done. Before I start a new project, I usually erase the files from the previous project. (This does leave some Video Studio looking for missing thumnails & links... It replaces my thumbnails with color-bar thumbnails which I have to right-click to delete.)

You may also delete temporary converted files: To view the location of the temporary converted files: Open VideoStudio and press F6 to open the Preference db, at the General Tab, you can see the location of the working folder. Using Windows explorer, go to this directory and delete the temporary converted files.

Make sure that the files you are about to delete are no longer needed.
