Can't edit captured DV files!

Post by perttu_tuovinen »

Hi,

I'm using X3. I encountered a problem today with captured DV files: I can't open them with VideoStudio. Some weeks ago it was possible to open those files. When I try to import them, VS says: "Unable to open file". I can open them with BSPlayer and Mediaplayer Classic (and sony vegas). With VLC Player there is a message that the file is "broken" but I can still see the video (but audio goes crappy). I've installed shark007's codec pack. I have also tried to reinstall videostudio, but it didn't help.. What can I do? I have a massive project file with many DV AVI files, and I can't see the files.. :/

so - how did you capture these 'DV' files - where did they originate from - how did they get onto your computer - what devices did you use - what are the properties of the files that you cannot edit ?

When did you install the codec pack: between when the files would play and when they would not? If so, uninstall the pack. We generally recommend against installing codec packs in their totality as they often cause conflicts with existing codecs. What you need to do is identify which codec(s) in them that you want, and install only those.

Also, have a look at this thread: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 25#p240425 It may have some relevance to your own situation.

Thanks for quick replies!
I think the files didn't work after installing the shark007's pack, I'm not quite sure as I haven't edited those clips for months.. :/ They are from a sony camcorder, captured with winXP and ulead videostudio 10. Here's what gspot app says about the files: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22336072/dvpreference.PNG

I'm afraid the problem is indeed with the codec pack. I tried to uninstall it but the uninstall failed ( ! ) and I'm not sure how to properly remove it. I regret installing it in the first place.. :(

Can you try a System Restore to before you installed the pack?

You can try using REVO Uninstaller to remove the codec pack.
