Side-by-side configuration error prevents PSP from loading

Post by mcala »

I have been using a licensed version of PSP x2 (periodically updated) for well over a year. After a recent crash, I tried loading PSP x2, and received the following error message upon clicking the *.exe file: "This application has failed to load because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please view Event Manager for details."

Checking numerous help forums, the universal consensus is that the problem involves the Microsoft Visual C++ redistributable files. I deleted and reinstalled all of the C++ redistributable files, updated using Windows update -- no dice. I called Toshiba for advice and they suggested a clean reinstall of Windows Vista Mome Premium 64, which I did. I then downloaded and installed new C++ files for 2005, 2008, 2010 (x32 and x64). I also downloaded the latest .Net Framework (4).

Still no dice. It only happens with PSP x2, x3, x4 (and CNET's Techtracker). Has anyone else had this problem and can it be resolved by doing something else?

Many thanks in advance. I have been using PSP since its shareware (2.x) days. I love the new versions.
