Justify Text

Post by gmoses3 »

How do you justify text (left to right) in the text box? I have tried the key combinations that support has told me and but it works only occasionally.

If you are trying to change the justification of text that has already been entered, I believe you need to highlight the text you want to change with the mouse, then click on the justification button (left, center or right) that you want to change it to.

Hope that helps.

I've never been able to highlight anything in production studio, even the commands are greyed out though.

Ok, I misspoke. I was thinking of the text dialog in MSP 7. In Cool3D Production Studio, the justification only applies to the text within the active text object and only if the text consists of more than one line. For example, if your text object contains "This is a test" on one line, the justification buttons on the text toolbar will be greyed out. If you change the text object to read "This is a" on the top line and "test" on the next line, the justification buttons will become active. Clicking on left, center or right justify will then affect the position of the word 'test' on the 2nd line.

Hope that helps.

I really appreciate your efforts. I have done as you suggested with an additional line but still with no ability to justify. They are still greyed out. I also added a second text insert but with no results. The weird thing is that I contacted support and they gave me a key combination (which I didn't write down) because it worked only intermitently. I use this justification (in other cg programs) to help stay within the safe zone. Another odd thing is it's not covered in any of the literature. I'm perplexed.

I'm confused as to what you are trying to do. Are you trying to justify text within a single text object or are you trying to align multiple text objects within the project window? The justification that I was describing only applies to text within a single text object. As far as I know, the only way to justify multiple objects within the project window is with the Object/Align menu. To use these controls, you must do a multiple selection (ctrl+left click) of the objects that you wish to align in the object manager window. That should activate the object align menu items. For example, if you select multiple objects and then do an align/Left, all the selected objects will align with the LEFTMOST object within the objects that you have selected.

Hope that helps.

Ken, 1st problem was that I didn't have the TEXT Toolbar visable. And some functions are now available.
Let me try it this way:
1. I create TEXT in the insert text box and apply.
2. I adjust the x,y,and z and create it in the time line for an animation.
3. I want to have the text at the end of the timeline in the center as in the begining.

Problem 1 no matter if I have 2 lines of text or 2 completely differnt lines (separate inserts) the Object Align is always greyed out.
Note: the toolbar does provide a little function but it's not what I need.
Thanks

Ok, here's a quick test to see if this solves your problem.

1. Create a new project and change its duration to 60 frames.

2. Make sure that the current frame slider in the timeline (the little pink box in the ruler bar) is on frame 1. Insert a new text object with the word "Test" and apply it. The word "Test" should be in the middle of the project window.

3. Move the current frame slider to frame 30. Select the Position attribute at the left of the timeline. Grab the text object and move it to the upper left corner of the project window. Ths should cause a new position key frame (the little black dot ) to appear at frame 30 in the timeline. This will make C3DPS to move the text from the center of the window at frame 1 to the upper left corner of the window by frame 30.

4. To move the text back to the center by the end of the animation move the current frame slider to frame 1 and select the Edit/Copy menu item. Now move the current frame slider to frame 60 and select the Edit/Paste attributes menu item. This will bring up a dialog box contaning a bunch of attributes, select the position object attribute and apply it. This should cause a new position key frame to be created in frame 60. Now the animation should start with the word "Test" in the center, move the text to the upper left corner by frame 30 and return to the center at frame 60.

Note you can also delete keyframes in the timeline (the little black dot) by right clicking on the one you wish to delete and selecting delete. As well you can grab a keyframe in the timeline and drag it to a different frame as needed.

Hope that helps.

That worked great Ken. But what if I wanted to use the 30 frame and move it to the center? Everytime and anytime I try to use Object-Align it's always greyed out. That's my problem. Maybe it's not made to work like a wordprocessor.

Ken,
I decided to try tech support tech support. Here is what they said:

"You need to select more than one text object from the "Object Manager" for you to use the "Align" Option. Click on the menu "View --> Toolbars Manager" then make sure that "Object Manager" is enabled. Then when you see the "Object Manager" you'll have to select more than one object (text) by clicking on one then holding the "Ctrl" key while selecting another. Once you've highlighted more than one object you can now use the "Align" the objects relative to what position you want them to take. If it's just one object (text), you'll have to center it manually. This is how Cool 3D normally works."

It's unfortunate, but apparently it's not for the purpose I thought it was for.
Thanks very much for your time and efforts.
