Runtime error when outputting DVD
I'm using DVD MovieFactory (Disc Creator) 3 on a decent PC with good hard drive space. The program is fully updated.
I have a video clip and a slideshow that I'm trying to burn on a DVD, and whenever I push the Output button, it gives me the following error:
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error
Program: c:\..\..\dvdmf.exe
This application has requested the Runtime terminate it in an unusual way.
-----------
Any thoughts or suggestions? I'm getting ready to throw in the towel on DVDMF altogether...
THANKS!!

I had that problem, too.
I'm not really shure, which action it really solved:
For security reasons i normally work only with user rights and give me in addition administration rights for installations (User + Administration), because something works in another way as in administration mode only (Administration without User).
I had reinstalled the program and all patches and i installed the burning patches, too (if you perhaps reinstalled MSP you get the older versions into your directory \programs\shared fiiles\Ulead\DVD)
There is a general burn engine patch and different burning patches, which should extracted into the above directory (first make a copy of that directory and its content)

Is the video clip an XviD or Nimo video? If so, remove the XviD/Nimo codec packs in your system and use DivX from http://www.divx.com instead.
Hope this helps.

Works with different format video
Seems, after many more hours, that this only happens when I use an AVI format video. Of course, I prefer to use that then an mpeg... should be better quality.
When I took my original AVI file and converted it to mpeg, and recreated all the menus, it didn't crash.
By the way, I did try re-generating the AVI file from both ULEAD VideoStudeo 7 and Pinnacle Studio 9.. and they both crashed.
VideoStudeo7 created a jerky mpg... but Pinnacle seemed to create a decent one.
I'm burning it to DVD now. The proof will be when I play it on my set-top DVD player and it looks fine.
Still unacceptable, and I'm still frustrated about it.
(thanks for all the posts. Not using XVID, by the way, just standard DV encoding)
Please post if you find more information.

Use AVICodec to know what video CODEC packs are installed in your system. Some of them might not be compatible with Ulead and Pinnacle and crashed them.
Hope this helps.

Reply from tech support
For what it's worth, the mpeg file resulted in a very very jerky final DVD. Here is the reply I got from tech support:
Dear Heinan,
Perform a Clean Remove of the program from your system. You may or may not find all entries in the list.
1. Launch Windows Explorer and go to
"Tools > Folder Options > View" to check "show hidden files and folders".
2. Please purge/delete all the files in these folders:
"C:\Windows\Temp"
“C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Local Settings\Temp” (for WinXP and 2000)
"My Documents\Ulead DVD MovieFactory\3.0"
3. Go to "C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems"
4. Delete the folder for MovieFactory 3
5. Delete "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems"
6. Go to "C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information"
7. Delete the folder "{068502DA-6979-4D9A-BBE1-C3AD0FF11F19}"
8. Go to Start-->Run
9. type "regedit"
10. Go to
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ulead Systems\Ulead DVD MovieFactory"
11. Delete the folder "3.0"
12. Go to
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ulead Systems\Ulead DVD MovieFactory"
13. Delete the folder "3.0"
14.Close "Regedit"
15.Restart Windows
16.Reinstall MovieFactory 3

PAL vs NTSC
For all who've been following. The reinstallation of the product, which, by the way, included a couple of patches that the above doesn't show, didn't work.
BUT, tech support did identify that I was using a PAL format AVI and trying to create an NTSC disc.
I'm pretty confident that is the reason it went south.
So, good catch on their part!!

Read my thread "Warning..."
If you do the clean out and reinstallation procedure acc to support and make sure the output is into a NTFS formated harddisc it works alright at least on making a PALDVDimage.
Try with an output to an imagefile first to eliminate the burnersoftware to start with.
Then you can choose burnsoftware- I prefer Nero!
The product Moviemaker is very good when you operate it right!!

Solution found
Hi,
I had the same problem and, after long time and many re-install, I sorted it out. The crash was happening when converting (large) AVI files using DV codecs. With (small) AVI files using any orther codecs, it was fine. I suspected the large / small difference to be the problem, but my partitions are all NTFS, including the TEMP ones. The real problem was the latest DMF3 patch (11/03/04). If you do the TOTAL cleanout (see above) and re-install up to and included the 06/03/04 patch, it works fine.
It seems that Ulead has done a change about DV in the latest patch, so stay away from it (at least if you have this problem)

Hi,
I can agree with your findings. But there is a other problem too. If you install the update pack (6/3/2004) you will get a "flicker problem" while creating a DVD from DV-AVI Source-Files. The DL support pack (11/3/2004) should fixed this problem, but if I install it, I get the "runtime error Problem". Now, I use MF without update/support Packs.

I, too was getting the Runtime errors using the latest patches. This only happened whenever I attempted to use DV-AVI video that was greater than 9 minutes and 2 seconds long. At some point while uninstalling and reinstalling, the runtime errors changed to generic Windows errors. That's significant because Windows errors are reported in the Event Viewer wich gave me the following information:
Faulting application dvdmf.exe, version 3.5.0.1, faulting module uvmpeg2.dll, version 3.5.0.1, fault address 0x0000156f.
So I uninstalled again and started with a clean install from my CD. I copied uvmpeg2.dll version 3.0 to a safe place and then applied all of the latest patches. Finally, I overwrote uvmpeg2.dll version 3.5 with the 3.0 version and now I no longer get the errors. I can finally burn DL DVD's!
