Sorry, we cannot give advice regarding acts which would infringe copyright.

its my own home movies, how the hell is that copy infringement? WHat I am trying to do is this, I made a dvd of my daughters home movies on a sony standalone dvd player, it put in chapters every 5 minutes. I want to import the entire dvd into workshop but when I do it keeps those chapter stops and I can only import one of the 5 minute chapters into the program. I want to import the entire dvd into one file. I can do this process in movie factory 4.0 with no problems but I cant seem to do this in workshop 2.0, I only used the decrypter program as a recomondation from people on this board, so try not to acuse me of things I am not doing ok. so can anybody help me do this or should i just dump this workshop 2.0 in the toilet cause right now its useless to me. I got workshop because we wanted a little fancier menu system and easter eggs but I can't even import files!!!

CAN ANYBODY HELP

Hi Jeff,

I replied in your other post that you can import the videos using MF4. the files will get saved to your hard drive in that program. Then open up DVD WS, and just add those files to your DVD WS project.

In DVDWS, don't use the "Import from DVD" function, instead use the function to just add a video (and add the videos you already imported in MF4).

Hi Jeff,

Sorry, I wasn't clear about which files to use.

When you "import from dvd" in MF4, the videos will be stored in a "Capture" folder as *.mpg videos (look where your preferences folder is telling DMF4 to store the clips). The captured *.mpg videos are the files you should be importing into DWS (not the MF4 Project file -- which are *.dwz).

I apologise, but using a decrypter normally means you are breaking the copyright coding.

The advice others have given is sound. An alternative is to stitch the bits together in an editor and create a new mpg, which is what I have done on occasion. If you use Smart render, render to same settings as the original and do not add filters/transitions etc. then there should be no quality loss

DVD Decrypter was indeed designed for cracking copyright protection, but also has some *very* useful legitimate uses, as it's perfect for breaking down existing DVDs (e.g. ones created using standalone recorders) into their separate parts so that you end up with separate MPEG and audio files, if you wish.

I don't have it in front of me right now but here's a quick run down on what you need to do:

-Open DVD Decrypter and put the DVD in the drive
- From the 'file' menu, select 'Mode' and 'IFO'
- You should now see a list of the PGCs (i.e. titles) that are on your disc, if you have recorded your film as one title you will probably see 4 PGCs, your film will show twice, as 1 and 3, and then the other two will probably only be one second long.
- Highlight your film (probably PGC 1), then go to the 'Stream Processing' tab.
-Tick the box that says 'Enable Stream Processing' and tick the boxes next to the streams you want to include (you will see video, audio and subtitle probably)
-Ensure 'Direct Stream Copy' is selected for each one.
-Then go over to the left and click on the symbol of the DVD going to the Hard Drive.
- This will create some files in the directory listed under 'Destination', you'll have an '.ifo', a text file, and a file called 'VTS 01.1_VOB'
-Rename this VOB file to '*.mpg' and you now have an MPEG-2 file of your whole film in one long title, which you can import into DVDWS.

Hope that helps
